TAX FRAUD INFORMATION - PLEASE READ AND TAKE ACTION
I am very sorry that we continue to hear reports about more people who have been affected by the tax return fraud. If you have not yet checked to see if you have been a victim of the tax fraud that has hit many of our staff and parents, please do so today. Follow the steps outlined in this memo from the archdiocese. If you know other parents or staff who are no longer at the school please forward this memo on to them, too, and encourage them to check the status of their return and to follow the steps in the memo. I will let you know any new information as soon as it is passed along to me. - Mr. Burroughs
Our Lenten Journey
This week, through CRS Rice Bowl, we learn about the people of Guatemala and how the families struggle to provide education for their children. We are encouraged to reflect on the Catholic social teaching principle, Rights and Responsibilities, and are reminded that as Christians, we are called to uphold and protect the basic rights of others. Let us pray this week for our brothers and sisters in Guatemala and all around the world, that we may come to know and protect the rights of all people.
The following CRS videos focus on how CRS and the rice bowl donations are working for the people of Guatemala (CRS helping in Guatemala) and also a simple meal from Guatemala (Global Kitchen for Guatemala). Recipes and information are also available on your Rice Bowl calendar.

Lost and Found
Our lost and found closet is overflowing with unmarked items (mainly clothing.) Please take a moment right away to go through the closet to see if anything belongs to your family and encourage your child to do the same. We will be spring cleaning and "clearing the closet" on Friday, March 28th to donate unclaimed items to a local organization that cares for refugee families.
Grandparent's and Grandfriend's Day
Sacred Heart School is excited to once again welcome the grandparent's and grandfriend's to our school for a morning of liturgy and time with the children on May 9. As we are busy preparing for this special day, we need your help in letting us know if the grandparent's and/or grandfriend's in your family will be attending.
Please RSVP your confirmation with the number of grandparents attending as well as their mailing address by clicking on the following webpage (GP/GF Day). Once we receive your confirmation, we will send out a formal invitation to the attending guests.
It is very important that we receive this information as soon as possible, as we will have a complimentary continental breakfast specifically for the grandparents and grandfriends and we want to ensure the caterer has the correct number of attendees.
- Thank you for your attention and we look forward to welcoming these special guests to our school.

K-4 Recycling Kick-Off
Sacred Heart School kicked off its recycling program on Tuesday, February 25th during the 5th-8th grade lunch. So far, recycling in the lunchroom has been a success!
Thank you to all of the 5th - 8th grade students for their help with this.
The recycling kick-off for the K-4 lunch will begin on Monday, March 24, 2014. Student Council members will once again help to educate students about what can and cannot be recycled, as well as the importance of recycling.
The Student Council Green Team would like to earn recognition as a King County Green School; our goal is to earn this recognition by April 20th of this school year. One of the steps to becoming a Green School is to reduce the amount of waste our school creates. As part of the lunchroom recycling, we have noticed that some students are throwing away large amounts of food during lunch; this includes whole uneaten sandwiches, whole pieces of fruit, unopened chips, crackers, etc.
We are asking for your help in reminding your children to bring home anything they could not finish during lunch. We also invite you to have your children pack their own lunches so that they bring what they will actually eat. Another way we can reduce waste is by using reusable containers whenever possible, instead of plastic baggies which end up in the landfill, to pack your children's lunch in.During the Lenten season, we as Catholics must think about all of the people who are less fortunate. We are called to make wise choices about the gifts we have been given.
Thank you once again for your help and support during this ongoing process.
