Science Fair

I want to thank everyone who made our science fair this year so successful. Many of our judges commented that they thought this year's projects were the best they had seen. Thank you to all of our students in grades 5-8 who participated, to Mr. Sarlitto and Mrs. Slater for preparing their students and coordinating the project-related aspects of the fair, Mrs. Hooper for spending the day tabulating scores, and Mrs. Ennis for coordinating all of the logistics from recruiting judges to setting up the night before to providing a tasty lunch for our judges. I also want to thank all of our wonderful judges who gave up a large portion of their day to make this science fair serious, thoughtful, and challenging. Science fair awards will be announced and distributed after Mass tomorrow. All parents are invited to attend Mass and stay for the awards. - Mr. Burroughs

Our Lenten Journey

This week, CRS Rice Bowl invites us to enter into solidarity with the people of Kenya. We are encouraged to reflect on the Catholic social teaching principle, All People are Sacred, and reminded that our inherent dignity comes from our creation as children of God and not from any of our own actions. Let us pray this week for our brothers and sisters in Kenya and all around the world, that we may respect and uphold the sacredness of life and dignity of all people.

The following CRS videos (video link 1, video link 2) were shared at the student family meeting last week and focus on Kenya, CRS, and a simple meal from Kenya for Lent. Recipes and information are also available on your Rice Bowl calendar.

Grandparent's and Grandfriend's Day

Sacred Heart School is excited to once again welcome the grandparent's and grandfriend's to our school for a morning of liturgy and time with the children on May 9. As we are busy preparing for this special day, we need your help in letting us know if the grandparent's and/or grandfriend's in your family will be attending.

Please RSVP your confirmation with the number of grandparents attending as well as their mailing address by clicking on the following webpage (GP/GF Day). Once we receive your confirmation, we will send out a formal invitation to the attending guests.

It is very important that we receive this information as soon as possible, as we will have a complimentary continental breakfast specifically for the grandparents and grandfriends and we want to ensure the caterer has the correct number of attendees.

Thank you for your attention and we look forward to welcoming these special guests to our school.

Calendar for the 2014-2015 School Year

We are finishing the school calendar and will be releasing it to parents very soon. - Mr. Burroughs

Important Fundraising Information

For the jog-a-thon this year we will be using an outside company to support our marketing and collection for the jog-a-thon and all pledges will be paid online by means of a credit or debit card. In addition, all pledges for the jog-a-thon must be made by the day of the event (May 15th). No pledges to the jog-a-thon will be accepted after May 15th. This means that from now until May 15th your fundraising obligation can be met through scrip or magazine purchases or pledges to the jog-a-thon (beginning May 2nd). From May 16th to June 1 you will only be able to fulfill your fundraising obligation through the purchase of scrip or magazines. From June 2nd to June 19th all families who have not met their fundraising obligation will be required to write a check for the difference between what they have raised and the $450 opt-out fee. Finally, from June 20th and beyond the full $450 opt-out fee will be required with no credit given for other fundraising. Fundraising, service and any other obligations must be resolved before students will be allowed to return to school in the fall.

I appreciate your support of our fundraising programs and ask for your assistance in making this a smooth transition to our new jog-a-thon program. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Theresa Daigle in the Development Office. - Mr. Burroughs

Auction News

We now have an accurate view of the 2014 auction and I am happy to announce that we have made a little over $200,000 in net profit from the event. Thank you for supporting this most important fundraiser through your volunteer time, procurement and attendance. Without all three of these factors, the auction would not have been a success!

You may have noticed in your registration information, that we have increased the procurement amount from $100 to $125. This change will help to offset the cost of the event, as well as provide unique and interesting items for you to bid on. The procurement fee has not been raised in many, many years and we hope this slight increase will allow for an even more successful event.

Parties

Please take a moment and click on the following link to secure your spot in the upcoming parties. Join fellow 8th and 6th grade parents for a gathering during the final dance of the year. Or, secure your 7th grader a spot for in the rising 8th grader swim party this summer. Hankering for a margarita? Join other parents to ring in Cinco de Mayo. These and many other parties are available. Just click here for more information.

Treasures of Faith Annual Fund

Thank you to all of those that have made their Treasures of Faith Annual Fund payment. To date, we are 45% of the budgeted goal of $225,000. We need your help to bridge the gap. These monies are used to help fund programs, offset the cost of tuition and provide the high quality catholic education you have come to expect.  Please prayerfully consider a gift to this most important fund. All gifts are 100% tax deductible. We also work with companies like Microsoft, Boeing, and many others that provide corporate matching. If you are not sure whether your employer offers this benefit, you can contact your human resources personnel or feel free to email Theresa Daigle with your questions.

Tips to help you stay safer online

Last month, the Parent's Club invited attorney Charles Leitch to speak with parents about teen cyber safety and social media risks. After his talk, many of you expressed an interest in learning more about keeping yourself and your families safer online.

I am pleased to share with you these six tips from Microsoft. This "tip card

is also available at the front desk for you to take home, one per family. Additional resources can be found at the Microsoft Security & Safety Center.

Stay tuned for more info as we evaluate future workshops on digital safety, but please do let me know if you would like us to address a particular topic.
