Hot Lunch Program Change
Due to recurring service issues with Blue Plate Express, they will cease serving hot lunches at Sacred Heart School at the end of the calendar year. We have already begun setting up interviews for a new hot lunch provider, and I am confident that we will have a great new program in place as soon as we return to school after the Christmas Break. I am sorry if this causes any inconvenience for you or your family. - Mr. Burroughs
Fall Play - Mythos
A great big "Congratulations!" to all the cast and crew of "Mythos." The fourth and fifth grade play was a great performance as well as an entertaining lesson in Greek mythology and was sold out both nights. The success of the production was due in large part to the direction of Mrs. Britt Boyd, our drama teacher and director, and the leadership of the Playmakers' Board, especially Patti Cook and Catherine Deasy. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make it a fun and educational experience for our students. - Mr. Burroughs
A Night at the Museum
We had a great turn-out, more than 70 people, at last Sunday's event at the Bellevue Kid's Quest Museum. I want to thank the Kozlowski family for their generous sponsorship of this event and the Parents' Club Board, especially Roxane Barkley, for their leadership with this fun family activity.
- Mr. Burroughs

Half Day ESS
Wednesday, November 27th, is a half day with dismissal at 11:45. ESS will be available from 11:45-3:15 for those who sign up. Please email Amy Davis if you would like your student to attend.
Outwear Reminder
As we head into these winter months (okay, long winter months!), please remember to send your children to school with some kind of outwear for recess - a coat, fleece, heavy sweatshirt, etc. Students are not allowed to stay in the building because they are cold. We have heard from some of you that your children do have jackets and sweatshirts, sometimes more than one, but they are not wearing them. We appreciate your help at home and will continue to remind students here as well to grab their coats or sweatshirts before they head outside.
Handicapped Parking Spaces
Please do not park in the marked handicapped parking spaces unless you or someone with you in your vehicle has a handicapped placard or license plate. There are many individuals in in our school and parish community who need to park in those spaces. If you need to run into the school quickly, look for one of the visitor parking spots next to the statue of Mary. - Mr. Burroughs
Safe Environment
Please make sure you are up to date with your Safe Environment training.
Many of our parents and volunteers are due for an online refresher course and/or need to sign off on the policy packet. Materials & instructions are available here. Please e-mail Amy Davis if you have any questions about your obligations.
Absent Students
If your student will miss any days due to illness or vacation please email Kerry Wyman and your student's home room teacher.
Open House
A Huge Thank You to all of you who helped make last week's Open House such a success! Thank you to Annette and Brian Seats for their key assistance in timelines, marketing the event, collaterals design/placement and detailed work the days right before and after the event. Thanks to our many parent volunteers and current and returning students who worked so hard that evening! Thanks to our families who told their friends to come and visit the school! What a great collaboration amongst volunteers, our amazing teachers and school administration team and Fr. Steve who all came together to show what a wonderful school and community we have at Sacred Heart!

For Pre-K: In order to secure your priority slot in Pre-K 2014, we need to receive your application, a signed letter of intent, and 1st month's tuition of $440 no later than Friday, December 13th. For those of you that have already submitted your applications, a letter of intent will be emailed to you on Friday, November 22nd. If you are interested in Pre-K but have not yet applied, please do so right away and we will send you a letter of intent immediately upon receipt.
For Kindergarten: We have set our Kindergarten assessment dates for January 23-25th. In order to secure your preferred time slot, we will need your application in hand and will start booking assessment times/dates once we get back from Christmas break on Wednesday, January 8th.
Please try to have your application in by no later than Friday, December 20th accordingly. If you have a student currently in Pre-K, we do not need an application from you and we will automatically schedule their assessment time during their regular school day here at SHS.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about these deadlines, dates, and procedures. - Susana Knapp
December Shoe Liturgy - December 6th
It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just around the corner. At Sacred Heart School that means it's time to begin thinking about our annual Shoe Liturgy. This year's Shoe Liturgy is scheduled for Friday, December 6th at 8:45am and will be celebrated in conjunction with the mass for the Feast of St. Nicholas. For those of you who are new to Sacred Heart School, the Shoe Liturgy is a special tradition at our school. We have formed a partnership with Treehouse, an organization that serves foster children in King County. This year we are celebrating our 10th year of partnership with Treehouse.
The idea behind the Shoe Liturgy is that each student does some kind of service to pay for a pair of shoes. Between now and December, students can work at home, help a neighbor rake leaves, clean out the garage or help decorate for Christmas to earn money for a pair of shoes. You, as the parent, determine when to render 'payment'. The important part of this tradition is that students learn that their service helped benefit someone in need. Once your student has completed their service, they can go pick out a pair of shoes to be donated; the practice has been that students purchase a pair of shoes that is the same size they wear.
On December 6th, students will bring their shoes to school. During the Feast of St. Nicholas, the Student Council will call students by grade level to come up and place their shoes on the steps of the sanctuary; once we are done, Fr. Steve will bless the shoes.
Some specifics we would ask you to remember and details to honor are:
- Shoes stay in the original box
- Do not wrap the box
- Do not include any candy, or other edible items. The warehouse utilized by Treehouse is not air conditioned and items have melted, soiling the shoes. If you wish to include something, we recommend including a pair of socks
- Size: purchase a pair of shoes that fits your students.
Please do not hesitate to email me any questions you might have about this great tradition. We hope to see you at our Tenth Annual Shoe Liturgy.
Blessings - Ms Gray
