Summer Skills Update

The links for our Summer Reading assignments are now available on the school website; students currently in kindergarten through seventh grade are required to do some kind of summer reading before the start of the school year.  Please use this link SHS Summer Studies to find the information you need, or you can find the information under the Summer Skills tab on the Academics page of our website.  Students going to 3rd - 8th grades will be asked to read a specific novel and complete a packet, copies of the novels should be available at your local library or bookstore, but if you have difficulty finding a copy, Sacred Heart has a few available for check-out, please contact Ms. Gray.

We realized after the fact that the link for the 5th Grade Spanish Review that published in Thursday's FTH was incorrect, it has been updated, but we wanted to provide it here for you as well.  5th Grade Spanish Summer Workbook

Staff Changes

I am sorry to announce that two of our staff members are moving on to new opportunities next year. Kim Douglass, our drama teacher and Playmakers director is moving to a position at Bellevue College. Laurel Nyquist, our 7th and 8th grade science teacher, is moving on to science leadership opportunities. We will miss them both. We have already begun the process of identifying replacement for their positions and will keep you up to date on our progress.

2013-2014 School Supplies

For the coming school year, we are asking families to provide some school supplies for their children entering grades 1st-8th.  Please see the attached listed for more information 2013-14 Supply List.

New ESS Payment Option

Click here to pay your ESS fees online using a credit card. Consider bookmarking this website for future use. Paying by check is still an option if you would like to avoid the 3.5% convenience fee. Checks may be mailed to the school or dropped off at the office (there is a drop box at the main entrance if the office is closed).

Madeleine Shannon Award

Madeleine Shannon was a member of Sacred Heart School's community for more than four decades as a parent, staff member, and volunteer. The Madeleine Shannon Award was established by her family to recognize students who exemplify the mission and spirit of Sacred Heart School in terms of their commitment to faith, service, academics, and school spirit. The award is presented to a seventh grade student at Sacred Heart School. The recipients are selected by the entire school staff. This year, due to a tie in the voting, our recipients are Ethan McReynolds and Claire Russell.  Congratulations to them both!

Lost and Found

Our closet is still very full with unmarked clothing/items.  They will remain in the closet until Wednesday, July 3rd.  After that date, all items will be donated.  All unmarked uniform items are already in the used uniform closet ready for our August sale and marked items have been set aside in the administrative offices.  We will be contacting you early next week to let you know if a marked item belongs to your family.  In addition to these clothing pieces, we have three pairs of boots in the office as well.  Please contact us if you think they could be your family's by July 3rd.

Tuition 2013-2014

We are in the process of setting up payment plans accordingly.  If you are a new family using FACTS (our monthly payment plan) you should have received an email directly from FACTS early this week advising you to set up your bank account.  Please do so right away to ensure that a July 2013 payment will be processed.  If not, the total amount due will be spread over an 11 month period starting in August 2013 -June 2014.

If you are a returning FACTS user, your account is automatically being rolled forward with the 2013-2014 tuition amount related to your family and your first withdrawal will take place in July 2013.

If you have chosen to pay your tuition in full, the due date is on or before September 3rd 2013 (the 1st day of school.)

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this process at [email protected]

- Thank you, Susana Knapp

This Notice Applies to New Students:  Required Immunization for 2013-14

All students are required to have a Washington State Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS) card on file at SHS. Parents must record all immunizations directly on the CIS record and sign to certify all immunizations are current. Submitting medical records from your physician is not adequate; parents must record all information on the CIS form. When students receive additional immunizations, these immunizations and dates will be recorded on their current CIS immunization form. Students must be current on all immunizations in order to be permitted to attend school. It is important that children are fully protected against these childhood diseases.

Parents may claim an exemption to one or all immunizations for reasons of personal, philosophical, medical or because of documented immunity.  For any exemptions, parent must submit a completed

Certificate of Exemption form that is signed by both the parent and physician.

If an outbreak occurs at school, your child would be excluded from class for the period of communicability for his/her protection.

All CIS records must be signed and completed by the parent or legal guardian. The only time a physician's signature is required is if you are claiming an exemption or your child has documented immunity to the disease.

All immunization requirements for the 2013-14 school year and necessary forms are available on the SHS website under health room page. All new student immunization cards and/or exemption forms must be submitted no later than
August 16, 2013.
