We Want to Hear Your Opinion!

As we rapidly approach the end of the school year, we need your help with one last survey. Earlier in the year we sent out a parent survey to gather date for our accreditation self-study. We need to ask you once again to take a few minutes to complete this survey. Your input is extremely valuable. This is the same survey that we sent out earlier in the year. The intention behind sending out the same survey a second time is to see if we have improved over the course of the year. So, if you completed the survey earlier in the year, please keep that in mind. However, if you did not complete the survey earlier in the year, you can still participate now. Please complete the survey by Wednesday, June 19th.

Thank you for your time. - Mr. Burroughs

Fundraising Survey Answers

In the recent fundraising survey, there were several questions related to scrip.

  • When you purchase scrip, you receive exactly the percentage that the school receives as a discount on the purchase. For example, QFC scrip provides a 5% return and Land's End provides 16%. When you go to www.greatlakesscrip.com, you can see the percentage offered by each different company.
  • This allows you to receive full credit for your purchases and makes it possible for you to track your scrip fundraising online.
  • We don't sell scrip in the parking lot or after Masses any longer because of safety and financial concerns. In order to make "face-to-face" or "on-demand" scrip sales work, we need to keep a very large inventory on hand. This ties up fundraising dollars in inventory for long periods of time, creates a significant risk of loss (due to theft, fire, or mishandling), and creates a tracking system that is significantly more complicated for the volunteers who run the program.
  • We recognize that there have been some mistakes this year as we transitioned to a new system. We are grateful for the patience and support of everyone who used the program. We look forward to much smoother operations next year.
  • If you don't want to wait to receive your scrip cards, you can purchase scrip online and print it out at home (ScripNow!) or reload your cards online. When you pay with PrestoPay, you can skip the school as your middle man altogether, and still receive the same fundraising credit! Go to www.greatlakesscrip.com for more details.

Yearbooks

Our yearbooks have arrived and they look fantastic! I want to say a special thanks to the adult volunteers Christine Kerr, Theresa Daigle, Tom Anderson, and Ifeanyi Echeruo as well as the fifteen sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students who made up this year's team.

Buddy Families NEEDED

The SHS Buddy Family program is an essential program for new families.  We have around 40 new families (1st year families) enrolling in Sacred Heart next fall and we need "experienced" families (mentors) who can be a supportive resource and help navigate a new family through their first year.  We ask that a Mentor Family forward e-mails about upcoming events, answer basic questions about policies and connect them with other families in our community.  Pre-K thru 8th grade new families need your help!  If you have any questions or are ready to sign up - please contact our 2013-2014 Buddy Family Coordinator Debbie Smith and she will be happy to work with you.  Thank you for considering being a part of this important program at SHS!

SUMMER SKILLS

Spanish

Student who took Spanish from Ms. Jones during the 2012 - 2013 school year (current 6th and 7th graders) will need to complete a Summer Spanish "Packet". The "Packet" consists of completing puzzle on the Realidades website for each chapter covered during this school year.

  • Current 6th graders: Complete 2 puzzles from each Chapters PE - 3B (total of 14 puzzles).
  • Current 7th graders: Complete 2 puzzles from each Chapters 4A - 6B (total of 12 puzzles).

Printed results sheets from each puzzle will be due the first Spanish class this fall.

Math

Each summer we require our students to practice and maintain the skills that they have learned this year in Math.  Students who do nothing over the summer, fall behind and lose the progress they have gained.  Please let your child's teacher know by the end of the school year, which option you are choosing for this summer.

Option A:  Summer Math Skills Sharpener

-Hard Copy Math Review booklet we have used in the past.

-Order online at this website

-$20 includes shipping directly to your home

-Order the grade level that your child is currently completing.

-All new students are required to do this option.

Option B:  Math Whizz and Xtra Math

-Students continue to access their accounts at home during the summer.

-Need to log on at least 45 minutes a week for Math Whizz and 3 times a week    for Xtra Math to see growth.

-Progress is monitored and growth is tracked.  Teachers are able to use this  data to prepare for September.

-No Cost

Option C:  Weekly Tutoring

- if preferred or already in place or another program to be approved by Mrs.    Lawler

·         -New students may choose this option.

Some parents have decided to have their child do both Option A and B.  That is fine, but not required.  Please e-mail Mrs. Lawler or your child's teacher if you have any questions.

From The Service Board - Class Community Coordinators for 2013-14 Needed

Thank you for those of you who took on the new role of Class Community Coordinator this year, the position has been an overwhelming success!  Faculty and parents alike have provided positive feedback to the Administration.  We are looking for volunteers who are interested in taking on this service job for the 2013-2014 academic year.

  • Each Grade will have two "Class Community Coordinators" who will work as a team to support their Grade's Teaching Team and parent community; the specifics for the position will differ for each grade.  The CCCs should be comfortable with email, SignUpGenius.com, interacting with Teachers, Administration, fellow parents and members of the Community.  This positions runs from June of this year through June of next year.

If you would like to be considered for the role of CCC for a particular grade please email Connie Gray
