WIN A PIZZA AND ICE CREAM PARTY FOR YOUR CHILD'S GRADE!
Parents' Club has created a survey and is hosting a pizza and ice cream party for the grade that turns in the most responses. These surveys are very important for us to get your feedback and to let us know what you think on important topics, so we need everyone's participation! The deadline for taking the survey is next Monday, June 3rd at 9:00 a.m. We greatly value your participation.
Many Thanks! - Parents' Club (Joanne Barber, Roxane Barkley, Katie Rossmeissl, Linda Michael, Julie Huard, Angie Taylor and Julie Chandler)
Buddy Families NEEDED
The SHS Buddy Family program is an essential program for new families. We have around 40 new families (1st year families) enrolling in Sacred Heart next fall and we need "experienced" families (mentors) who can be a supportive resource and help navigate a new family through their first year. We ask that a Mentor Family forward e-mails about upcoming events, answer basic questions about policies and connect them with other families in our community. Pre-K thru 8th grade new families need your help! If you have any questions or are ready to sign up - please contact our 2013-2014 Buddy Family Coordinator Debbie Smith and she will be happy to work with you. Thank you for considering being a part of this important program at SHS!
From the Health Room
For Field Day: Everyone is looking forward to field day being a day of great fun and school spirit. Please remember the following;
SHS is providing these foods & drinks: Garlic Jim's nut-free pizza (regular & gluten-free), goldfish snacks, fruit rollups, water & powerade.
Students and teachers ARE NOT to bring any snacks or candy!
Bring a labeled water bottle to stay hydrated!
Have parents apply sunscreen at home-if necessary!
Immunizations Required for School Year 2013-14:
When students first enroll at SHS, parents are required to submit a WA State Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS). On the CIS, parents provide the dates that all required immunizations were received. Student CIS forms are kept in the health room and updated as additional immunizations as required.
For 2013-14 school year, students entering 6th grade and kindergarten are required to receive the following immunization(s):
6th graders:
Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap, Td)
Kindergarten:
# 4 in series of polio # 5 in series of Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis
# 2 in series of Mumps, Measles and Rubella (MMR) # 2 in series of Varicella (Chickenpox)
Parents should not submit a new CIS form but instead should send me an email providing the date(s) that these additional immunization(s) were received. This information will be recorded on a student's original CIS form.
If a student cannot or will not receive these required immunization(s), parents must submit the WA State Exemption form available on school website. The Exemption Form requires the signature of both a parent and the child's physician.
If you have any questions, please send an email to AnnMarie Thompson or call 425-451-1773 x127
SUMMER SKILLS
Math
Each summer we require our students to practice and maintain the skills that they have learned this year in Math. Students who do nothing over the summer, fall behind and lose the progress they have gained. Please let your child's teacher know by the end of the school year, which option you are choosing for this summer.
Option A: Summer Math Skills Sharpener
-Hard Copy Math Review booklet we have used in the past.
-Order online at this website
-$20 includes shipping directly to your home
-Order the grade level that your child is currently completing.
-All new students are required to do this option.
Option B: Math Whizz and Xtra Math
-Students continue to access their accounts at home during the summer.
-Need to log on at least 45 minutes a week for Math Whizz and 3 times a week for Xtra Math to see growth.
-Progress is monitored and growth is tracked. Teachers are able to use this data to prepare for September.
-No Cost
Option C: Weekly Tutoring
- if preferred or already in place or another program to be approved by Mrs. Lawler
-New students may choose this option.
Some parents have decided to have their child do both Option A and B. That is fine, but not required. Please e-mail Mrs. Lawler or your child's teacher if you have any questions.
Reading
We are still reviewing the requirements for summer reading, but will not be making any drastic changes to what was required last year. Please look for specific information in the FTH and on the website no later than the first week of June.
Uniform Reminder
As the weather warms (at least on some days) we see more students wearing shorts. Please remember, only solid white, navy, or green color socks or tights may be worn with the uniform. Navy ankle-length leggings with matching ankle socks may also be worn.
Accreditation Review
Our staff has finished the second draft of our accreditation self-study. It is now posted to the website for your review. This is a lengthy document, so you may not want to tackle the whole thing. Instead, try reading just a section or two that appeals to you. Please send any comments, questions etc. to Ms. Gray. We want and appreciate your feedback. - Mr. Burroughs
Hiring Update
We have progress to the second phase of hiring for our open teaching positions by asking candidates to teach demonstration lessons for the committee to review. I hope to have more news for you next week. - Mr. Burroughs
