2013-14 SERVICE JOB SIGN-UPS!
It's time to sign up for a service job you'd like for next year! We're looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow morning, Friday, May 17th from 8-9am in the library for the 2013-14 Service Job Sign-ups. You will find more information about the different Service Jobs on our website
Staff Changes
I want to let everyone know that we will have some changes in our school staff next year. These jobs have been posted and we have already begun the process of hiring new staff. For all hiring, a committee of five to six administrators and teachers review applications, conduct interviews and then review videotaped observation lessons before making a final selection. This is a rigorous and careful process which has resulted in terrific hires in the past and I am confident will do so again. I will let you know as soon as we have hired for any of these positions. If you know someone who might be interested in applying, please have them go the website to begin the application process. - Mr. Burroughs
- Rosemarie Engman will be moving from 4th grade to teach the Academic Resource Class in middle school as well as some other middle school classes.
- Cassi McDougall, who has been our long-term music substitute and band teacher this year will return next year as a regular part of our staff.
- Sue Degioia, one of our kindergarten teachers, will not be returning to Sacred Heart School next year.
- Finally, Claudia Jorissen has announced her decision to retire from regular teaching after more than 40 years as a high school and middle school teacher. She has let me know that she will continue to sub for us in the future.

Placement Requests for 2013-14
Placements requests for the 2013-14 school year need to be submitted by Friday, May 24th.
**Requests received after May 24th will not be considered.**
As we approach the end of the year, it is important to remember that no one knows your child academically like his or her classroom teacher. This is why the classroom teachers are so fundamental to classroom placements for the following year. Our teachers work together to place your child in the classroom that will best meet his or her needs while also keeping an eye towards balance in terms or gender, academic strengths and styles, social issues (both in terms of students who may have trouble getting along and those who get along too well). I ask that you put your trust in your children's teachers in this important and challenging process. They, like you, have your child's best interest at heart and have spent most of a year getting to know each one.
If you still believe it is important for you to provide input process the placement process, the Placement Request form is available on our website.

From The Service Board - Class Community Coordinators for 2013-14 Needed
Thank you for those of you who took on the new role of Class Community Coordinator this year, the position has been an overwhelming success! Faculty and parents alike have provided positive feedback to the Administration. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in taking on this service job for the 2013-2014 academic year.
- Each Grade will have two "Class Community Coordinators" who will work as a team to support their Grade's Teaching Team and parent community; the specifics for the position will differ for each grade. The CCCs should be comfortable with email, SignUpGenius.com, interacting with Teachers, Administration, fellow parents and members of the Community. This positions runs from June of this year through June of next year.
If you would like to be considered for the role of CCC for a particular grade please email Connie Gray
6th and 7th Grade Parents
Your child is invited to attend the optional trip to Washington, DC during spring break of 2014 (April 20-25). This trip is offered every other year to Sacred Heart 7th and 8th graders. Gena McReynolds, leader of 17 student trips, will again organize this adventure, along with School Tours of America. She has taken over 700 students to our nation's capital.
There will be a parent informational meeting on Thursday, May 23, at 6:30 pm. Registration materials will be available at the meeting. Sign up by July 1 to receive the 2013 price.
In addition to Washington, DC, we will be going to Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg. Sacred Heart teachers/staff will chaperone with a ratio of 1:10.
Hopefully your child can join us for this trip of a lifetime!

State of the School
Over the next few weeks I will be writing in the From the Heart about the items that were discussed at the State of the School meeting. I will break it in to pieces in order to avoid the From the Heart becoming too long.
- We announced at the State of the School Meeting that we have made a change in our summer math requirements based on parent feedback. This summer students may complete the Summer Skills math book for their grade, work on MathWhizz for a minimum of 30 minutes per week throughout the summer, or enroll in Kumon or another math practice program (or more than one of these). The only thing we ask is that you communicate your choice in writing to your child's current teacher before the end of the school year.
- All of the major dates for next year (and some of the minor ones) are already posted to the school Google calendar. This is the official school calendar and is updated throughout the year. The one page, color-coded calendar is published early for planning purposes but is not updated after it is published.
- Our accreditation visit next year will be February 12-14. We are in the process of posting our rough draft to the school's website. Please take some time to read any or all of it and provide your feedback to Ms. Gray (who is collecting the self-study feedback for use in the next revision).
