Placement Request Policy (rev. January 2013)

The administration and staff of Sacred Heart School has revised our Placement Request Policy effective January, 2013.   We are now requiring families to complete a Placement Request form and provide specific academic and/or behavioral needs that justify their request for a specific teacher for their child.  The Placement Requests needs to be completed and returned to the Vice Principal by Friday, May 24th.  Requests made directly to classroom teachers will be forwarded to the administration so the Placement Request form can be completed.  Requests received after May 24th will not be considered. Requests received by the May 24th deadline will be carefully considered as class lists are made; although, it is not possible to honor all requests.  Our goal is to create classrooms that are balanced academically, emotionally and socially.

On-line Registration for 2013-2014 School Year - Deadline extended to April 15th, 2013

A big THANK YOU to all the families that have taken the time to register their students!  Our original deadline was yesterday, April 8th but due to Easter Break, we are extending our deadline by one week to Monday, April 15th.

If you can't locate the original email sent to your family on March 20th, if there is a chance your child will not be returning to Sacred Heart next year, or if you need extra time for payment of registration fees, please contact Susana Knapp right away as she would love to talk and work with you accordingly.

All registrations received after Monday, April 15th will incur a $100 late fee unless you have attained an agreed extension directly with Susana Knapp.

Thank you for taking the time right away to complete this important process.

Grandparent's Day - May 10, 2013

Sacred Heart School is excited to once again welcome the grandparent's to our school for a morning of liturgy and time with their grandchildren on May 10th. As we are busy preparing for this special day, we need your help in letting us know if the grandparent's in your family will be attending.

Please RSVP by April 19th your confirmation with the number of grandparents attending as well as their mailing address to Theresa Daigle in Development. Once we receive your confirmation, we will send out a formal invitation to the attending grandparents.

It is very important that we receive this information as soon as possible, as we will have a complimentary continental breakfast specifically for the grandparents and we want to ensure the caterer has the correct number of attendees.

Thank you for your attention and we look forward to welcoming these special guests to our school.

Jogathon

Anyone who has a tailgate tent that could be used for the Jogathon on Tuesday May 7th, please e-mail Yolanda Marshall.

Sacred Heart Chess Team Victorious Again!

Congratulations to the Sacred Heart Chess Team who came in 3rd place in the Bellevue Catholic Chess Challenge on Saturday, March 23rd!  Fifty-five students from more than eight Catholic schools competed at the tournament hosted by Sacred Heart.

Individual awards went to Richard Barkley, William Collins and Ethan McReynolds for coming in 2nd place in their divisions.  Erik Anderson earned a 3rd place trophy and Janaya Cataquis 4th place.

Contributing to the team trophy was Scott Biggs, Quinn Floyd, John Gallucci, Ben Collins, along with those mentioned above.  Way to go to all the chess players!

Additional Instructional Time

Next year, Sacred Heart School will be extending the school day until 3:15, Monday through Friday. Some of you may be wondering, "Why do we need this extra time each day? Other schools have a shorter day, why can't we?"

It's important to understand all that goes into a week at Sacred Heart School as we strive to provide a complete Catholic education for your children.

  • First, we need adequate time to teach all of the core subjects (like religion, math, and reading) along with the supporting parts of the curriculum (such as music, drama, and physical education).
  • We have responded to consistent parent feedback by providing extras in our curriculum like Spanish in grades 1-8 and conflict resolution and anti-bullying programs led by our school counselor.
  • While tightening our schedule this year in order to make the best possible use of each week, we have also maintained some of those programs that make an education at Sacred Heart School unique and enjoyable like Peacemakers, the Passion Play, family meetings, Junior Achievement, and star student presentations. These are the programs and activities that students will remember fondly decades from now.
  • For the health and well-being of our primary students, we have maintained an afternoon recess.
  • Following the great majority of our parent's responses in surveys, we have maintained a school start time of 8:30 a.m. instead of the earlier start time of other school on the Eastside.
  • As a Catholic school we have made a commitment to regular community participation in Mass and other prayer opportunities.

I cannot speak for other schools. But I can say that our teachers and staff are working to offer the best possible education for all of our students - an education of their mind, body, and soul. Doing this well takes time. After working this year with an improved schedule it was clear that we still needed a bit more time each week as we strive to  fulfill our school's mission of providing, "an excellent academic education in an environment of faith and virtue," for all of our students.
