Middle School Learning Support Program

Beginning this fall, Sacred Heart School will be offering a Learning Support Program for students in 6th and 7th grades. This program will be designed to support students in math and language arts and will be in place of Spanish, Music, and Art or Drama them. Students will be required to qualify for this program based on a combination of standardized test scores, grades, teacher recommendations, and independent assessments. This is not a homework help or tutoring program designed, for example, to raise a student's grade from a B+ to an A. It is a program to provide the support necessary for some students to fully access the curriculum and to be successful in their classes. The program will be an additional cost above tuition. The class size will be strictly limited. If you are interested in more information or seeking admission for your child to this program for next year, please contact Mr. Burroughs.

Vision and Hearing Screening Results

We have completed our annual vision and hearing screenings for students in grades K-3, 5 and 7. I'm happy to share that every student passed the hearing portion.  If after re-screening for vision, a student's results continued to be 20/40 or greater then parent notification is required. On March 5th, I sent an email only to parents of children who we've recommended further evaluation with an explanation of their child's specific vision results.

Thank you for your support in recognizing outstanding achievement within our community!

Registration information for 2013-2014

Both returning *and* new families will register for 2013-2014 school year through our on-line process (same as last year) which will take place in March.  You will receive emailed instructions in March which will walk you through the steps.  Feel free to contact Susana Knapp if you have any questions or concerns at 425-451-1773 ext. 156.

Renewal Food Bank

The Renewal Food Bank, with which we have partnered for over a decade, will be losing its funding from the Word Impact Network at the end of this month. In order for the food bank to keep feeding more than 250 hungry families each week, they need your help. You can donate to them online or drop off a check at the school office.

Internet and Cell Phone Safety

It's important to remember that the world of communication is very different today than when we were children. If you child has a cell phone, internet access, or social media accounts, we strongly recommend:

  • Know all of the sites for which your child has an account or visits regularly.
  • Make sure that you have the log-on information for your child's cell phone, e-mail, and social media sites.
  • Let your child know that you will be monitoring his or her cell phone, e-mail, and/or social media sites...and then follow through.
  • If your child has too many social media, e-mail, and other accounts to effectively monitor, you might want to limit the number they can have.
  • Reminding your child that they should never write anything in e-mail, a text message, or any website that they would not be proud to say to in front of you.

These suggestions come from experts in the field of communications safety and are borne out by our experience here at the school. Cell phones, text messages, e-mail, social media sites, and the internet in general can all be great tools for our children to use. But they are tools that require adult supervision to be used in a way to ensure that they avoid harm to their users or other people.

Important Addition to "Contributing Parishioner Rate" Policy

As you know, in order to receive the "Contributing Parishioner Rate," families must: be registered at Sacred Heart Parish, have a 2013 Stewardship Commitment Pledge Card on file at the parish, and be making reasonable progress toward fulfilling their pledge.

Also note this new requirement: The registering student must be baptized Catholic at time of registration or have a plan for baptism or reception into the Catholic Church through the RCIA program organized with the parish at time of registration in order for the family to receive the "Contributing Parishioner Rate."  If you have any questions or concerns about this new requirement, please contact David Burroughs at 425-451-1773 ext 113.

Lost and Found

Our closet has finally maxed out with un-marked clothing so it is time to donate our items accordingly. Please take a moment (or ask your child) to go to the gym foyer to check the articles of clothing, shoes, accessories, etc. as we will be donating unclaimed items by tomorrow - Friday, March 8th.  Note that small and high value items are held at the front desk by Kerry Wyman.

- Susana Knapp

Reminder - Limited Morning ESS tomorrow, March 8th

Due to the Science Fair tomorrow, morning ESS will take place in the library instead of the gym. Drop off will be at the exterior library door instead of the North entrance. Since we will have less space, morning ESS will only be available for families on the full time plan. Thank you for your flexibility & we apologize for the inconvenience.
