Auction Fund-a-Need

This year's auction will give you the opportunity to invest in the security of our school. By raising your paddle to support technology at Sacred Heart School, you will help our children to have a secure future by providing them access to the best educational technology. In addition, when you raise your paddle for technology, you will be helping us to upgrade our security and communication systems that will keep our students and staff safe in an emergency. And when you raise your paddle for the endowment, you are providing for the long-term financial security of our school, not only this year and next, but for years and even generations to come. So, before you come to the auction, please prayerfully consider how you can support this year's Fund-a-Need opportunities - technology and the endowment. - Mr. Burroughs

Annual Vision & Hearing Screenings - February 4, 6, 7

Washington State code states that schools will conduct annual vision and hearing screenings for students specifically in grades K-3, 5 and 7.   Students in grades Pre-K, 4, 6 and 8 are not participating in this year's annual screenings.

EXCEPTION:  If a parent of a Pre-K, 4, 6 or 8th student has concerns that their child may have a vision or hearing issue they may request that their child be included in the annual screenings.  In order to do this, parents must e-mail their request to Ann Marie Thompson and include the child's name, classroom and indicate which screening is needed-vision and/or hearing.

Parent Volunteers Needed for Vision & Hearing Screenings

HELP!  We are in need of Parent Volunteers to help with Sacred Hearts Hearing & Vision Screenings, happening on Monday February 4th, Wednesday February 6th and Thursday February 7th.  Without parent volunteers we CANNOT perform these important State-mandated screenings.

Please look at the schedule below and let me know which date and time you are available to help.  If you can sign up for multiple shifts that would be even better!  There are currently 15 open slots we need to fill.  It would be great to have an extra volunteer each day as a floater to help out as needed.  You can email me at Brianna_01@hotmail.com with your selection or with any questions you may have.

Monday, February 4th:

* 8:50-9:50am, 1 volunteer needed

* 10:50-11:50am, 2 volunteers needed

Wednesday, February 6th:

* 8:50-9:50am, 1 volunteers needed

* 10:50-11:50am, 3 volunteers needed

Thursday, February 7th:

* 9:50-10:50am, 2 volunteers needed

* 10:50-11:50am, 6 volunteers needed

I will need you to arrive at school 20 minutes PRIOR to your volunteer shift.  Thank you so much for your time and consideration! - Brianna Bennitt

Placement Request Policy (rev. January 2013)

The administration and staff of Sacred Heart School has revised our Placement Request Policy effective January, 2013.   We are now requiring families to complete a Placement Request form and provide specific academic and/or behavioral needs that justify their request for a specific teacher for their child.  The Placement Requests needs to be completed and returned to the Vice Principal by Friday, May 24th.  Requests made directly to classroom teachers will be forwarded to the administration so the Placement Request form can be completed.  Requests received after May 24th will not be considered.

Requests received by the May 24th deadline will be carefully considered as class lists are made; although, it is not possible to honor all requests.  Our goal is to create classrooms that are balanced academically, emotionally and socially.

A Few Words about Lice

You may have noticed that we have seen a few cases of lice this year in the primary grades. This is not unusual for an elementary school and it is not unusual for our area either. In talking with local businesses involved with lice treatment, they have seen a higher than typical number of cases this year from our area. It is not a sign of dirt or disease, but often comes along with our recent cold weather and the hats, coats, and scarves that get worn and shared at this time of year.

When a case of lice is reported to the school we report it to all parents in the affected grade(s). We cannot mandate head checks for all students. However, we strongly encourage parents to carefully check their children's hair for nits (or eggs) and lice. If you do not have experience with checking for lice and know exactly what to look for and how to search, you should watch this video or one of the others like it on YouTube that will give you step-by-step directions or consider seeking professional assistance. I also recommend that lice is really best treated by careful and systematic combing at home or by a professional. The mayonnaise, sprays, goops, etc. really have little effect in my professional experience. - Mr. Burroughs
