Auction Registration Begins Tomorrow!
Now that we are all back from the Christmas Break, it can only mean one thing: the gala auction is almost here! This is by far the most important fundraising activity of the year for Sacred Heart School. The proceeds from our gala auction go directly towards supporting the operations of our school. More than that, though, this is the social highlight of the year. It's a great opportunity to spend an evening together with your fellow parents and staff eating, drinking, bidding, talking, and all the while supporting our school.
Don't forget, this year we will not have a Family Night Auction. So, don't wait to see your friends later. Call them up and organize a table together for Mardis Gras! - Mr. Burroughs
Young Author Convention - January 31st
SHS is proud to announce that the Young Author Convention (YAC) will be January 31, 2013! YAY!! This is a wonderful opportunity for your children to, "Yackety yack with authors and have them talk back!" The YAC mission is to enrich literacy development through inviting professional authors, illustrators and story tellers to share and present real life experiences and connections.
We have wonderful guests this year! Including our own 1st grade teacher Kristen Maloney!
We also have local authors:
- Samantha Vamos
- Katherine Schlick Noe
- Story teller/folksinger Adam Miller
- Journalist Brian Calvert
- Social Media expert Trey Wright
This year's group covers many facets of writing and sharing stories, news, customs, and history. What a unique experience for our children!
Three authors have offered to autograph books! We have two different book ordering forms - here are the links to download the forms:
Order form for Kristen Maloney (k-4)
Order form for Samantha Vamos (k-3) and Katherine Schlick Noe (4-8)
The deadline for ordering books is FRIDAY January 18, 2013.
We will not sell books the day of the event.
New Staff
Please join us in welcoming Jessica Manni and Theresa Daigle to our Sacred Heart School staff. Jessica and Theresa will be working together in the Development Office on the things like the Annual Fund, Annual Appeal to the Parish, creating an alumni database, publishing the alumni newsletter and tracking and soliciting information from recent alumni. You will also see Jessica and Theresa helping out in the front office as well. Please join us in welcoming Jessica and Theresa to our staff. - Mr. Burroughs and Ms. Gray
Lower Lot Big Toy
As some of you pointed out in your recent surveys, the yellow big toy in the lower parking lot had outlived its useful life. Parts of it were no longer safe and the rest was not usable any longer. Thanks to Mr. Rob Chandler, it has been removed. Now we have a new task before us of resolving the continuing drainage problems that that area experiences. We are in the process of receiving bids for that work now. I will keep you up to date as things progress.
- Mr. Burroughs
Change In Front Office Procedures
As some of you may have seen, we have had several new parents covering the front office for us during the day and, as mentioned above, you will begin to see our new development staff covering the front office as well. With this is mind and to ensure the safety of all of your children, please do not be offended if someone at the front desk asks to see your identification when you are picking up your student. As you can imagine, being new to this community, it takes a while before you can recognize the faces of all 200+ families! Now is a good time to think about updating the list of people authorized to pick up your child(ren), particularly if there are people you no longer want to pick up your children, your list is out of date, or we do not have any information, please let us know. Thank you in advance for your help. - Mr. Burroughs
Annual Vision & Hearing Screenings Begins the week of Feb 4th, 2013
Our annual health screenings for Vision and Hearing will be conducted the week of February 4, 2013. All students in grades K-3, 5 and 7 will have vision and hearing checked. If your child wears glasses, please make sure that they bring them on the day of screening. Once the schedule is finalized, it will be posted.
Any child who does not meet the screening standards will be re-screened within 2 weeks for vision and 6 weeks for hearing. If after re-screening, the results still have failed to meet the standards, you will receive a copy of these results. Normal results will NOT be sent home.
If you do not want your child to be tested for all or part of the screenings, you must return the "Opt-Out" form to classroom teacher or the health room before Monday, February 4, 2013. If no form is received, then your child will be screened for both vision and hearing.
Download the "Opt-Out" form here.
We are looking for volunteers to conduct the vision and hearing screenings. If you are able to help us during that week, please e-mail our health screening coordinator, Brianna Bennitt
If you have any questions about the health screening, please e-mail Ann Marie Thompson.
Admissions Updates for Sacred Heart School
Pre-K 2013
Our program is full for 2013-2014 but please let your friends with Pre-K aged children know that we would still love to hear from them so we can keep them informed of our Open Houses and other opportunities to see the school as we hope to have their students here for Kindergarten 2014!
Kindergarten 2013
Our testing/assessments are taking place on January 31st, February 1st, and February 2nd. Contact Kerry to request your child's play date time on February 2nd. We have allotted extra time for a few more assessments in that 1st round of testing so if you have any friends considering SHS Kindergarten, please let me know and I will be happy to contact them and get them included in the process.
2013 Grades 1-8
We have a few slots available in a few grade levels. Applications for first round consideration for those slots are due Friday, February 8th. Exact test/assessment dates have not been scheduled but applications (received by February 8th) will be included in the assessment process for grades with availability and applications for grade levels that are full will be placed into our wait pools accordingly.
- Thank you, Susana Knapp
