Advent Program Attire

Students should be dressed nicely, like what they would wear for a picture with Santa Claus or for a family Christmas card. Regular school dress code applies, and, for safety reasons, NO high heels.  - Cassi McDougall

Important Steps for Kindergarten 2013 Enrollment

It is time to think about Kindergarten for next year!  Please make sure you have sent in your child's application accordingly. If your student is currently in our Pre-K program, you do no need to "re-apply" but must confirm to our office via email if you would like to apply for Kindergarten.   Please note the following process will occur upon receipt of application/confirmation of interest:

  • Kindergarten testing/assessment dates are January 31, February 1, and 2nd.    As always, every student applying for Kindergarten must go through this process including those currently in our SHS Pre-K program.
  • Over our Christmas Break, you will receive an email letter from SHS with the details for this process including instructions of when to call the front office to schedule your assessment times.  If your student is currently in Pre-K and you have confirmed K interest, we will automatically schedule your student's assessment during their regular school hours here at SHS.
  • The week of February 4th, we plan to send out our acceptance /wait list letters along with an intention letter and Kindergarten registration fee that will need to be returned to Sacred Heart in order to secure your slot.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this process.  My telephone number is (425)451-1773 extension 156 and email address is sknapp@sacredheart.org.

Need Your Feedback on "Hot Topic" Discussion Forums

Coming up soon are some evening discussion forums with the school counselor, hosted by Kari Boyd and Parents Club. Specific dates, time and location are TBD. These discussion nights are mainly to provide information and spread awareness on various "hot topics" throughout grade level groups. These beneficial discussion nights will offer parents an opportunity to learn, ask questions, and chat with other parents in their child's grade level.

**Please help select books/topics by completing this survey!

Sacred Heart Staff Appreciation Book

We would like to let you know about the new "Sacred Heart Staff Appreciation Book", that is will be available at the front desk year round. From time-to-time we all like to do nice things for our SHS Staff (Christmas, Birthday's, a thank you), but we have no idea what they might like. The Staff Appreciation Book will be a great resource for you.  You can access this information online by clicking this link.

If you have any questions please e-mail Jennifer Joffe the Sacred Heart Community Coordinator.

Lost and Found

Our closet is now completely full of unmarked clothing.  Please take a moment over the next week (during December 18th Advent program would be perfect) to look for any of your child's missing items.  During Christmas break, all unclaimed clothing will go to a wonderful program called CARE that services refugee families relocated into the Tukwila school district.   As always, marked uniform pieces are sent back to your students via their classrooms and unmarked uniform pieces are placed directly into our used uniform closet.

Friday, December 21st Early Dismissal, 11:45am

Morning ESS will run as usual.  There will be *no* afternoon ESS.

Considering a Gift to Sacred Heart School?

As the end of the year approaches and uncertainty looms about changes to the tax laws for next year, this is the perfect opportunity to make a contribution to Sacred Heart School's Annual Fund (which supports this year's programs and activities) or the Sacred Heart School Endowment (which helps to sustain the mission and work of Sacred Heart School for decades to come).

OLIVER!

The year's Playmaker production was announced at the Talent Show and will be Oliver!  As in years past, all current SHS students are encouraged to submit original art that will be used to promote the play (SHS Playmaker website, posters, t-shirts, flyers).

The winner will receive a $50 Target gift certificate.

The art contest was kicked off on Monday, December 3, 2012.  The forms should have been distributed in the classrooms for children in Grades 1-5 and in the homerooms for Grades 6-8.  It can also be downloaded using the attached link (please be sure to print it double-sided so that the judges don't see your name).  Extra copies are also available at the front desk.

Drawings must be turned in to the school office no later than this Monday, December 17th.  The winner will be announced after we return from Christmas Break, no later than Thursday, January 10, 2013.

Chess Club Sign-ups

Join the fun!  Chess Club sign-ups for the second session (Jan. 8-Mar. 19) are online and open to all students in K-8th grade who are interested in learning or increasing their knowledge of chess!  Whether you are a beginning or experienced player, chess is a great way to increase math skills, concentration, memory, and self-confidence while having fun.
