Friday 8 - 11:30am.

We will also have an online sale Tuesday thru Sunday, December 10th!                     Just click here and shop!

Emergency Messages - Please Follow Us on Twitter.

Sacred Heart sends emergency messages (including weather closure information) through the school's Twitter feed. Sign up by sending this message: follow SacredHeartSch to 40404.

You do not need to sign up for a Twitter account in order to receive these messages.

You will likely receive a message in response to signing up encouraging you to create an account. Feel free to ignore that message unless you want to start sending out messages of your own on Twitter.  Please make sure to send the message exactly as it appears above. Many cell phones will automatically capitalize the first letter of the text message. Make sure that the "f" in "follow" is lower case.  If your setup is correct, you will receive a message indicating that you are now following Sacred Heart's emergency line.

Boots at School

Now that we have returned from Thanksgiving Break, students are allowed to wear boats to school.  As a reminder, boots may be worn with pants only from now until the end of March.  Students must continue to wear socks and tennis shoes on P.E. days.  -  Ms. Gray

OPEN HOUSE

A Huge Thank You to all of you who helped make our Nov 13th Open House such a success!  Thank you to Annette and Brian Seats for their key assistance in coordinating and marketing the event, including their collaterals design and placement.  Thanks to Nancy Schoeggl our photographer and website designer, our many parent volunteers, our current and returning student volunteers, and families who told their friends to come and visit the school!   What a great collaboration amongst volunteers, our amazing teachers and school administration, and Fr. Steve and the parish staff who all came together to show what a wonderful school and community we have at Sacred Heart!  - Susana Knapp

Report Cards

Report cards will go home next Friday along with this year's ITBS scores and Gates MacGinite Reading Scores.

Winter Spirit Clothing Drive

This is a great time to go through your kid's closets and find gently used items to donate to those in need. ASB has boxes at the school entrances and would love for you to donate your coats, hats, mittens etc..  All items will be donated to the Lifespring Store at Bellevue Square. Thank you for supporting those in need!

Annual Parish Pledge

All school families who are receiving the "Contributing Parishioner" tuition rate are required to have an annual parish pledge on file and to make regular contributions toward the fulfillment of their pledge. Please remember to fill out your new pledge card for the 2013 calendar year and submit it to the parish office right away. Your parish pledge helps to support all of the ministries, programs and personnel of the parish, including our school. - Mr. Burroughs

Primary Lunch

Based on the feedback received from the recent parent surveys, we will be conducting an experiment with our primary lunch during the month of December. Parents have expressed the concern that their primary age children do not have enough time to eat their lunch and are throwing away food. So, we will be expanding lunch time by five minutes on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (Tuesdays are excluded due to the short day schedule) and reducing the recess time by five minutes (they will still have a 15 minute recess). This will not affect either the morning or afternoon recess. We will be watching carefully to see what this time change produces and if it reduces the number of students throwing away food. We will report back our findings after the Christmas break.

Along with this I would like to share some observations that I and other staff members have made in the lunch room. Some students spend a fair amount of time heating their lunches at the microwave and or adding hot water to a cup of soup. In order to give your child the most time for eating, I would suggest avoiding foods that need to be heated or filled with hot water as much as possible. For hot food, you might want to consider a thermos. We have also noticed that there are a fair number of students who throw away food even though they arrive in the lunchroom on time, do not heat their food, and spend most of their time eating. Children's caloric needs change as they grow, sometimes increasing and decreasing at others. You may want to ask your child to bring home uneaten food, rather than throwing it away, so that you have a better sense of how much (and what) they are eating. And, I think all of us who are parents realize that some kids are just picky eaters (and may go through picky phases). We often see children who just will not eat perfectly appetizing food because it does not appeal to them. Click on these links for some suggestions for picky eaters from "Today's Dietitian" and the Mayo Clinic  that might be helpful.
