leftspotlight2012 SHS SHOWCASE TALENT SHOW

Parents, grandparents and siblings are invited to attend the annual Talent Show tomorrow from 12-1pm in the gym. Students will be eating "picnic style" on the floor in their family groups. Seventh and eighth grade students are encouraged to bring a blanket upon which their "family members" can sit. Please send a lunch with your child on Friday that can be easily eaten while sitting on the floor, and for the safety of all of our students NO NUTS OR PEANUTS are allowed in the lunches this Friday.

We have over 20 new and exciting acts this year and all parents are encouraged to attend.   The Playmaker board will also be unveiling the upcoming Spring Musical for 2013!

***Talent Show Participants-please note that you should have received an e-mail notification through your supervising parent for this Friday's festivities.  If you have not been notified please e-mail Mrs. Douglass immediately.

Vacation Homework Policy

As the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday grows closer, we have received a few requests from families who are leaving early to put together homework for their students to complete while they are gone.  In general, all students are expected to complete to work on the following:

  • Finish or complete the next Spelling (K-5)/Wordly Wise (MS) unit
  • XtraMath (K-5)/Go onto the next unit in the Math book (6-8)
  • Keep a daily journal; the focus should be on writing descriptive sentences/paragraphs about the things you are doing.
  • Finish/Complete the next Lead 21 packet, or read a book for a Book Report; if appropriate, start the Book Report
  • Any long-term reports they were working on when they left

Students/families should contact their child's teacher(s) as soon as possible about an absence due to a vacation to find out if there are any grade level specific assignments to be completed, or information needed to complete the assignments above.  As with any absence, we ask that the student check in with their teacher(s) upon their return to review what assignments still need to be completed and discuss a time frame for their completion.

Parent Survey

As a part of our accreditation preparation you will be seeing a few more surveys this year than normal. Please take a few minutes to complete the School Parent Accreditation Survey

Your feedback is extremely important in the process of our self-improvement. After this survey, your will receive a follow-up survey later in the year to assess how well we are responding to your feedback.

Winter Spirit Clothing Drive

This is a great time to go through your kid's closets and find gently used items to donate to those in need. ASB has boxes at the school entrances and would love for you to donate your coats, hats, mittens etc..  All items will be donated to the Lifespring Store at Bellevue Square. Thank you for supporting those in need!

All school families who are receiving the "Contributing Parishioner" tuition rate are required to have an annual parish pledge on file and to make regular contributions toward the fulfillment of their pledge. Please remember to fill out your new pledge card for the 2013 calendar year and submit it to the parish office right away. "Hot Topic" Discussion Forums

Coming up soon are some evening discussion forums with the school counselor, hosted by Kari Boyd and Parents Club. Specific dates, time and location are TBD. These discussion nights are mainly to provide information and spread awareness on various "hot topics" throughout grade level groups. These beneficial discussion nights will offer parents an opportunity to learn, ask questions, and chat with other parents in their child's grade level.

**Please help select books/topics by completing this survey!

Scrip is on Hiatus

In case you missed the special bulletin sent on Monday, the scrip program is currently on a hiatus as we transfer over to an online system. Monthly orders will still be filled as well as orders placed prior to Monday. New orders will not be filled next week as usual, but as soon as we have the new system up and running. - Mr. Burroughs

Policy for Student Medications at School

SHS follows WA State code that all student medications must have a completed Authorization for Medication Form signed by both the child's physician and parent.

  • This policy applies to both prescription and all over the counter medications such as anti-histamines, cough drops Tylenol etc.
  • The completed Authorization for Medication Form and medications must be turned into the health room where they will be kept and administered by staff only.
  • There is an exception when it comes to inhalers. WA State permits inhalers to be carried and self-administered by a student if both the physician and parent give permission on the Authorization for Medication Form.  Inhalers must have a prescription label affixed.

If you have any questions, please email Ann Marie Thompson

Letter from Fr. Steve regarding Sacred Heart Church's yearly focus on parish stewardship

As we begin our yearly focus on stewardship, particularly parish stewardship, I am asking each of our parishioners to take 3-5 minutes this coming week to view a new video by Archbishop Sartain sharing his thoughts about stewardship - his personal experience of it, his experience of stewardship as a pastor, and his hope as our Archbishop for each of us to more fully practice stewardship, as a response to our discipleship.

You can find the video at this link.

I look forward to sharing this continuing journey to stewardship with you!

Sincerely,

Fr. Steve Sallis

Pastor
