Thank You, Alison!

We are sorry to have to report that yesterday was Alison Scott's last day as Sacred Heart School's Development Assistant. Alison has accepted an exciting new position at Bishop Blanchet High School. We are grateful for her many contributions to SHS. We will miss her and wish her every success in her new endeavor.

We have made plans to take over her duties in the interim. The job opening has been posted with the Archdiocese of Seattle as well as other locations. If you know someone who might be interested in this position, please encourage them to apply at the link above.

Accreditation

Sacred Heart School is accredited by the Western Catholic Educational Association. This year we are preparing our self-study report in preparation for a visit by the accreditation team next year. As a part of our self-study process, the school staff has been reviewing and renewing our Student Learning Expectations. Otherwise known as SLE's, these are the broad goals that guide the faith, educational, and character formation that we provide here at Sacred Heart School.

Over the last few weeks the staff has created a first draft of revised SLE's. Now we would like your input. For those who were unable to attend the SLE feedback sessions today, please review the SLEs here and send your comments to Mr. Burroughs. However you can participate, we would greatly value the opportunity to hear from you in person and engage in dialogue with you about the goals that should shape instruction for all of our students.

- Mr. Burroughs and Ms. Gray

Pre-K Program 2013-2014

We are preparing for our Open House and would like to have a clear picture of the availability we will have to offer for next year's Pre-K program.   If you have a child that will be 4 by August 31, 2013 please take a moment and email Susana Knapp by Tuesday, November 13th with one of the following options:

  1. We strongly wish for our student to be in the 2013-2014 Pre-K program
  2. We are not sure if we want our student to be in the 2013-2014 Pre-K program
  3. We do not want our child to be in the 2013-2014 Pre-K program

This simple advice will be extremely helpful and of course, you are welcome to advise further detail (i.e. not attending Pre-K as we need full day program or waiting for the following year to have my student start SHS in Kindergarten.)

Open House

Sacred Heart's annual Open House will be held this year on Tuesday, November 13 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity for you to invite friends, neighbors, and relatives to come and see our school community. Prospective families will have the opportunity to learn more about our school and the admissions process. The evening will include guided campus tours and teachers in all grades will be available to speak about their programs including pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, 1-5th grades.  We will have a middle school (grades 6-8) presentation from 6-7 p.m. and encourage our current Sacred Heart parents in grades 4 and 5 to attend as well as new families interested in SHS.

Please contact Susana Knapp if you know a family interested in SHS as she would love to speak with them, personally send them an invitation, and watch for them that evening.  Your friends are some of our best future SHS families!  Also, if you would like to be a Parent Tour Guide that evening, please contact Susana and she will be so happy to have you in this fun and special role!  Training will take place earlier that same day and she will let you know details accordingly.

Annual Fund Update

Thank you to the many families that have already turned in your pledge for the Annual Fund!

Many of you have very generously increased your pledge and we just are so appreciative as that gets us closer to our goal of $225,000. Currently, we are at $40,465 in donations which is 22% of our total pledged.  Checks can be made payable to Sacred Heart School noting "Annual Fund" in the memo section. Payments can be mailed or dropped off at the front office or you can donate online at Give Now.

Attention SHS Alum Parents

Our annual Renew newsletter is coming out soon and we would like to hear from our SHS alumni who are now parents of SHS students. What were your favorite memories at SHS? Who were your favorite teachers and are they still here teaching? Tell us what you think is special about having your children follow in your footsteps. We'd love to highlight these special stories in our next newsletter. Please email the office and share your unique story.
