Welcome to the February issue of our newsletter.  With the holidays behind us our office hours are on a regular schedule this month.  Call anytime for an appointment.  We are pretty flexible as we start at 7:00 a.m. three days a week, are in until 6:00 p.m. two days a week, and have office hours two Saturdays a month.
Tips for Feeling Better in the Winter

The winter is typically a very busy time for us as our patients get stiffer in the colder weather and suffer from a general decrease in activity.  The tips below should help make the winter a little easier.
  1. Maintain an exercise schedule: Staying active and strong is very important to controlling pain levels from arthritis and the reducing the general stiffness most patients feel in the cold weather.
  2. Take supplements including Vit D: Vitamin D levels can drop dramatically in the winter so a supplement with D3 can increase energy levels and fight off seasonal mood disorder, that grumpy feeling many of get in the winter.
  3. Get some sunshine: Sitting in the sun or going for a short walk on a sunny day can be very therapeutic by fighting off cabin fever and helping create Vit D naturally.
  4. Use good technique when shoveling snow: Snow should be pushed if possible, lifted with a straight back and bent knees, and with frequent breaks.  Also, doing back bending stretches (cobra pose in Yoga) will help avoid irritation to the spine joints from repeatedly bending forward to lift the snow.
  5. Take a vacation: If possible get away to a warm sunny area, Florida, California, and the Carribean are great choices. A mid winter break to sit in the sun will surely make the winter go by faster.
