Greetings!
Welcome to the August issue of our monthly newsletter. As August rolls on we are busy with plenty of students who are training for the fall sports season. Remember that our clinic is the only one in NEPA certified to perform athlete injury screening with the Functional Movement Screen. The FMS screen is used by most major professional sports teams to prevent injury and improve performance. If you are the parent of an athlete or coach of a sports team call the office to schedule your movement screens in August so we can prevent problems that may arise during the season. Enjoy this month's issue. |

New Child Seat Recommendations for 2014
The recommendations for the use of the popular child car seat LATCH system is being changed for early 2014. New recommendations from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration are asking parents whose children and car seat combined exceed 65 pounds to not use the lower anchors, as their strength has not been fully studied with heavier children. This recommendation will most likely affect children over 3 years old and states that using a traditional seat belt is a safe alternative to the lower anchors. The American Association of Pediatrics and the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers and currently recommending further tests on the lower anchors under greater weight and strengthening the attachments if needed. Look for a formal announcement about this in early 2014 but for now it appears using the lower anchor system is still a safe option of children under 3 years old.
