Athletes Carry Torch at State Games 

 

torch lighting for SOTwo WDSRA Wildcat athletes had the honor of participating in a long standing opening ceremonies tradition at the Special Olympics Illinois basketball competition. Andrew had the honor of being one of  four people from Area 2 selected to carry the torch. While Ray had the honor of lighting the torch. The event took place this past weekend at Illinois State University in Bloomington.

Spring Break Adventures in Jamaica  

 

participants on trip to Jamaica Fifteen participants and three staff are spending their spring break in the beautiful Caribbean island of Jamaica!  

  

Participants get to enjoy a week of exciting new adventures with their peers in this tropical paradise. A vacation separate from parents fosters independence, social skills and an increased understanding of the larger world in which they live. Families can appreciate the week of respite from their caretaking responsibilities while knowing their child is in good hands.  
WDSRA Receives Award for Excellence

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to WDSRA by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

This is the 9th year in a row that WDSRA has received the award!

Summer Staffing Going on NOW

There are several different opportunities and varying schedules including: seasonal (evenings & weekends), weekly, one-time special events, field trips, day camps (M-F 9am-3pm or 1/2 days), before and after care, swim lessons, etc.

WDSRA Singers Wants YOU!

 

WDSRA singers Have a passion for singing? WDSRA Singers is for YOU! This group is perfect for those serious about singing and looking to fine tune their talents. You'll practice solo and group songs as well as perform in the annual Performing Arts Recital.

Spring Horseback Riding Lessons

 

horseback riding lessons Have you ever wanted to take horseback riding lessons? Did you know that riding a horse can be therapeutic? WDSRA has partnered with Friends for Therapeutic Equine Activities to offer riding lessons at Kingsway Farm in Winfield. This program is accredited by PATH International and will be led by Therapeutic Riding Instructors.

Special Needs Screening Series

 

cinderella movie poster Studio Movie Grill offers family-friendly movies FREE for children with special needs and their siblings. Movies are shown with the lights up, the volume lowered and children are free to move 

around, talk or even dance in the aisles during the movie.  Plus, order any menu item marked with the SMG Chefs for 

Charity badge and SMG will donate 5% of the proceeds to WDSRA.

2015 Miss Amazing Pageant

 

MIss Amazing pagaent Will you be the 2015 Illinois MISS AMAZING? Miss Amazing celebrates girls & young women with disabilities giving them the opportunity to build self-confidence in a supportive environment.

 

Girls and young ladies participate in three required areas: Interview, Introduction, Evening Wear, Talent Showcase (optional). All will be crowned as princesses. One girl in each age group will be selected as queen to represent her state for the year.

Cost: donation of 5 cans of food 

 

Boys & young men with disabilities may participate in our Right-Hand Man program escorting the young ladies during the evening wear portion of the event.
