Basketball Athletes Going to State

 

Wildcats go to state  

 

There were some very happy athletes on the courts this past weekend. All seven of the WDSRA Wildcats adult basketball teams competed in the Special Olympics Basketball District Tournament. There were 33 teams in total competing from Special Olympics Area 2 and Area 5. 

 

Wildcats 1 and Wildcats 3 both took 1st place in their divisions. They will go on to compete at the Special Olympics Illinois State Basketball Tournament March 13th-15th! 

 

Congratulations and good luck at State!

Wine & Spirit Donations Sought

WDSRA Staff Receive Statewide Awards

Angie Two WDSRA staff were honored at the Illinois Parks and Recreation Association (IPRA) State Conference held last week. Both awards were from the Illinois Therapeutic Recreation Section of IPRA.

Ted Adatto was presented with the Professional of the Year Award.
Angie Koomia received the Outstanding Program Award for the Lose to Live Program. Jerry and Estella Hayes (Biggest Loser season 7 at home winners) even stopped by for Angie's surprise presentation.

Special Needs Screening Series

 

Studio Movie Grill offers family-friendly movies FREE for children with special needs and their siblings. Movies are shown with the lights up, the volume lowered and

strange magic

children are free to move around, talk or even dance in the aisles during the movie. They also have a children's menu where 5% of the proceeds go to WDSRA.

9th Annual Chords for Kids Concert

chords for kids North Central College is hosting its 9th annual Chords for Kids FREE concert. This is a special event created especially for children with autism and their families. Families can enjoy instrumental performances where music and motion come together featuring everything from classical pieces to popular tunes. Audience members are free to make noise and move around during the performance.
