Greetings!
Jewish holidays offer families a supportive framework to teach essential values. Tu B'Shevat (aka, Jewish Earth Day) falls this year on Saturday, January 26. It presents an ideal opportunity to highlight the value of shemirat ha'adamah (protecting the earth).
This Tu B'Shevat, why not encourage your family to plant the seeds for a sustainable future by reading PJ Library books aloud together, tending an indoor or outdoor garden, or setting a fruity seder?
Want to experience Tu B'Shevat with PJ Library? Join us on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Summerwinds Nursery. (See details below.)
However you enjoy the holiday, may the little sprouts in your house continue growing up healthy and strong.
B'Shalom,
Rabbi Leslie and Eleanor
P.S. We had a fabulous December. See below for details.

A Spectacular December for PJ Library! |

Yellow Comforter Wrap-up
In November, under the auspices of our local PJ library and PJ Goes to School classroom program, 10 schools within our Jewish Community began created a new cooperative Tzedakah, philanthropy project. The effort, called the Yellow Comforter Project, was based on a PJ Library book called "How Dahlia Fit a Big Yellow Comforter into a Tiny Blue Box."

Our community's pre-schools and early elementary school students, most younger than 7 years old, read the book, made the boxes, collected money and purchased items for the Yellow Comforter project that were contributed to the Embrace a Family project of Jewish Family Services for holiday gifts to children and adults in need. For one month, these young children did chores, saved their money, engaged their families in the project and raised close to $4,000 for the Yellow Comforter Project!
Candlelighting at Santana Row
On December 9th, nearly 1500 people joined together at Santana Row to experience Hanukkah together at a by-now traditional holiday event sponsored by the PJ Library program.
Children engaged in craft activities, there were tasty foods to try and music to enjoy on stage presented by children from our synagogues and schools. The program culminated in Candlelighting at sundown.
Thanks to all of PJ Library's communal partners for their creative and enthusiastic involvement and to Guggenheim Entertainment for the engaging, upbeat program enjoyed by so many.
