Roosevelt student a semifinalist at Shakespeare competition

Benjamin BriggsRoosevelt High School student Benjamin Briggs was a semifinalist at the 30th season of the English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition in New York City. The competition was held at Lincoln Center Theater in New York City for 58 winners of ESU branch competitions nationwide. Briggs had previously won the ESU Seattle branch regional competition. 
 

· Ballard Jazz wins first place at Mt. Hood Jazz Festival

· Franklin, Sealth students honored at entrepreneurship challenge

· Whitman 8th-graders take first in 'Safe in the Sound' video contest

· Roosevelt wins third at Essentially Ellington Jazz Festival 

 

Students accepted in second phase of aerospace scholars program

future space shuttle  Five students from Ballard, Garfield, and Ingraham high schools are among 160 talented juniors from across the state whose academic performance on the first phase curriculum qualified them to advance to the second phase - the WAS Summer Residency program.

 

· Nova student wins Silver Medal in national writing competition

· Ballard, Roosevelt, Garfield take first in Solo/Ensemble Contest 

· Students named winners of college-sponsored Merit Scholarships 

· West Seattle High student wins teen chef challenge (outside link)

· Ingraham students win gold medals at FCCLA conference

· Radio C89.5 FM takes Award of Excellence at state conference

· Bagley student named state champion in literature contest

 

Washington Middle School students winners in biomedical essay contest

 Washington Middle School students, Sydney Santos and Georgia Gray, and their teacher, Stella Bass, were honored at an Awards Day on May 8 for being winners in the 2013 "Biomedical Breakthroughs and My Life" essay contest 

 

· Franklin High student named Gates Millenium Scholar

· Roosevelt, Nathan Hale, Ballard win journalism awards  

· Bryant Elementary, Eckstein Middle School students win essay contest

Staff Celebrations

· Sealth teacher wins World Educator Award (World Affairs Council)

· Office professionals honored for receiving national certification

 

Eckstein teacher nominated for Music Educator Award 

Moc EscobedoCuauhtemoc (Moc) Escobedo, music teacher at Eckstein Middle School, has been announced as a quarterfinalist for the first-ever Music Educator Award presented jointly by the Recording Academy and the Grammy Foundation.
 

 

· South Lake teacher wins Civic Educator of the Year Award

· Loyal Heights teacher recognized as classroom 'Hero' (My Ballard)
· Lowell principal named to justice board (Access to Justice Board)

Winners of Global Reading Challenge treated to luncheon
Seattle Public Schools Superintendent José Banda and Seattle City Librarian Marcellus Turner hosted a lunch at John Muir Elementary School May 14 to honor the school's Global Reading Challenge winners. John Muir's team, the "Bookettes," won the Seattle Championship at Seattle's Central Library.
