The Collect  / Advent
A
lmighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. AMEN.

Dear Friends,

The season of Advent is upon us and we spend these days in preparation. All the holiday activities can be overwhelming.  In the December Rush we can lose our bearings and simply ride the white water current finding ourselves in the new year not exactly knowing how we got there OR we can pause, reflect, contemplate and prepare our hearts and minds, souls and bodies to greet the coming of our Lord.  Pastor Robin invited us into a Holy Advent and I commend her sermon to you.  (CLICK HERE)  The practice of our faith, those things we intentionally do make the journey rich and in it we discover and encounter the Lord who makes all things new.  We have specific moments in the days ahead as a congregation and I invite you to participate in all you can...

Next Sunday, December 8th (because there is a group on the Canterbury Campus) all our weekend activity will take place at the ChapelON SUNDAY... At 9am we will have an informal Fellowship Breakfast on the patio by the chapel (The kids will do Pageant Rehearsal in the Chapel) Join us for all the FUN!

On December 14th; Dr. Carla Waterman is offering a retreat on the Magnificat (the Song of Mary) This will be a time to reflect on what God has done, what He is doing and what He will do.  See the announcement below to register.  Carla is also doing and Advent Devotional Blog - you can check it out at http://inthekingdominstitute.org/category/blog - let this be nourishment for your heart and soul in this rich season.

The Wild Game Dinner at Canterbury on December 15th (look in the left column)  A family, friendly moment with great fun and food, join us in the joy of celebrating as we laugh and sing as God's family!

Deacon Jose's Ordination to the Sacred Order of Priests on December 21st followed by a reception (please contact Lydia Pierce if you would like to help with the food and festivities following the service - clpierce1106@earthlink.net)  The next day December 22nd Bishop Brewer makes his first formal visitation to Incarnation and we have 12 folks being either confirmed or received in the church.
THEN CHRISTMAS!

Advent is also a season of mission where we share with the world our hope and faith in Christ Jesus. There are folks in your sphere of influence who are ready and need to know The Lord. We have opportunity, look around and take notice of people in your office, in your neighborhood, at school and throughout the community. Be alert and ready to share the hope you have in Christ.  Yes there is abundant activity; decorating, shopping, dinners, holiday parties and more.  In all this let us take time to be a light in the darkness and to point people to the real reason we celebrate; because at just the right time God sent His Son...

                                                         ...in the Mission,

                                                    Fr. Jon+

From Dr. Carla Waterman...
  An Advent Season Retreat on
       THE MAGNIFICAT

December 14th / 9am-9pm
Carla's retreats are quiet, contemplative spaces designed to take people deeper into God's presence. She is a gifted speaker and retreat leader. The topic of this retreat is one in which Carla wrote a book about and one in which she has profound insights.  It will enrich this year's celebration of Incarnation for sure!  The cost is $89.00 for the day which includes 2 meals.   If you want to go and have trouble with the cost please see me - there are scholarships available - We do not want money to be a reason someone does not attend.
