Dear Friends,

Most of you know I have been away on a personal retreat, time in a hermitage in Valle Crucis, North Carolina. I hope someday we will something like this on the Canterbury campus.  (Click Here to see where I've been) I do this every year, but this year is very different. In years past I was usually working on my PhD dissertation and was there to produce "pages".  With that work done I have truly been waiting on the Lord in prayer; praying for Incarnation, our life together as we grow in the Lord, listening to hear details about our calling. Don't know if I have gotten anything specific but I will share three thoughts that keep running through my heart and mind.

First, the need for all of us to wait on and look to the Almighty God...  "But as for me, I will watch expectantly for the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me." (Micah 7:7)  In this waiting we are renewed and to quote another verse the Kingdom of God comes into this world:
not by might, not by power but My Spirit says the Lord! (Zechariah 4:6) God will use us, our creativity, our skills, our willingness but ultimately the work of the Kingdom is His work and we get to participate in seeing lives transformed and people brought into wholeness.

Second, I have been mediating on this verse for over a year... "So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria enjoyed peace, being built up; and, going on in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it continued to increase." (Acts 9:31)  I pray we are faithful in this calling and that we are a people who walk in deep reverence (fear) of the Lord and that we enjoy the comfort (peace presence and power) of the Holy Spirit day by day.  I hope when people visit or see Incarnation they would see a church characterized by this verse.

Finally,  I keep hearing, "Repent and do the things you did at first." (Revelation 2:5)  I do not want to take this out of context but I have been rereading emails and data from when Incarnation was birthed and launched. We have had a few twists and turns in this journey, some unexpected developments as we have hiked this path. The calling can be quite simple, we are to be: A place of light in darkness; A place of hope in despair; A means of grace, forgiveness and healing in a broken world.  There are structures and institutional elements, budgets and policies but at the heart of Incarnation is a people who are learning to love God with all they are, love one another and share the love of God by going into the world to make disciples.  Join me in a renewed commitment...

                                                   ...in the Mission,

We have a desperate need for volunteers in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.
We need people who are willing to be in the atriums on Sunday mornings to help and assist the Catechist.  It is getting critical, simply to give us the needed coverage to operate this ministry, we are stretched too thin.  It is a rich and rewarding ministry and I am praying several folks will hear a "calling" in this plea. Please contact Jada Kearns, jadakearns@hotmail.com or Vickie Seavers, gseavers@bellsouth.net for more information and details.

Caitlyn Seavers was diagnosed earlier this year with Type 1 diabetes and she is the youth ambassador for this event (click here for a story about Caitlyn).  We discovered that Beth (my wife) was Type 1 in 1993. I was a type 2 diabetic for 12 years+ and with my weight loss have completely reversed this disease in my body.  You can read about my journey to health on my page (click here and scroll down) I may be unaware of others in the congregation who struggle against this disease. This can be a very manageable disease and it can also reek havoc on a person's body.  There is a walk on November 2nd   Click here for details about the walk.
