Dear Friends,
There are lots of things to doubt in this world. We live in a fragile, global economy. There are constant threats of terror and violence. I saw something this weekend that I had not seen before. While going to a movie at a theater, thrown in with the commercials, the popcorn and soda "bait" and coming attractions was an announcement (pointing to the emergency exits) that went something like this, In case of an emergency please make your way patiently, calmly and without alarm to the nearest exit. I could only think this was brought on or inserted because of what happened in 2012 in a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. The world can be a very unsafe place.
As we apply faith, hope and love and as we understand ourselves as "aliens and strangers" in this world we can live secure in "the peace that passes understanding", knowing in this world we will have tribulation but to be of good cheer for Christ has overcome the world. (John 16:33) There will be trials and struggles, storms that will shake us. If we have built our lives on the Rock of Jesus, his teaching and saving power then we can be sure of his protection and presence that will sustain us in all we go through. (Matthew 7:24-27). When ever I see a rainbow I am reminded of God's presence and promise. This week Petrea Nelson captured this image over the Canterbury property.
God is faithful - we fear no evil because he is with us (Psalm 23) ALWAYS - (Matthew 28:20).
A favorite hymn that captures this is The Solid Rock. Here is a nice rendition by 4HIM...
