 The Step up for Down Syndrome Walk is Saturday, October 12th at 9am and we need your help to support our team "Cruising for Kaitlyn". Your contribution goes to assist parents who cannot afford the necessary therapies to help their children reach their highest potential. The donations also assist in educating parents, health professionals and the community. Come walk with us to help increase awareness in the community and celebrate Kaitlyn's successes. Dear Friends,
Well the season is upon us as we gear up to reach out.
Next Sunday we will celebrate our 7th Birthday as a congregation with a Homecoming Sunday. (2 Sunday services 8am and 10:15am) Dr. Carla Waterman will teach a special Pastor's Class at 9am on what it means to be INCARNATION. Following the 10:15am service we will have a pot luck luncheon.
Depending on the first letter of your last name:
A-M bring a side dish or salad
N-Z bring an entree or main course
All sorts of ministry opportunities in the days and weeks will follow; Alpha, Saturday Service begins on 9/14, Home Groups, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, Special Classes, Order of St. Luke Healing Ministry, Discipleship and more. Additionally we have a special service with Steve Fry on 9/11 on at 7pm. (See below)
We have an opportunity to make a difference in people's lives and to transform this community into the Kingdom of God by who we are and what we do. All this is grounded in the Love of God in compassionate caring for people of all ages, all walks of life. Years ago in while living in Destin I had charge of a friend's 42 foot sailboat while he was away working a contract job for a couple of years. One year we had a tropical storm approaching and I had to secure the boat for the inclement weather. I learned to "Hurricane Anchor" a sailboat you needed two anchors. You would toss the two anchors about 110 degrees apart from the bow of the boat and the plan was that the boat would move back and forth between the two anchor points.
It has been a metaphor for life ever since I learned that lesson. As we walk this life of faith we are dually anchored as well in the Great Commandment. First we are secure in the Love of God, his Loving Kindness towards his people. Second we need to be committed to love people in such a way they come to know the love of God in us and through us.
In the midst of the start-ups and ministry opportunities, in fellowship and service in all we do let be let us be motivated by and anchored in God's love and loving people.
May God grant us favor and provision, success and growth for the Kingdom of God...
