The Oviedo Christian Ministers Association is hosting a prayer meeting, Monday evening June 10th, 7pm at Reformed Theological Seminary.
This past Wednesday morning, the Oviedo Christian Ministers Association hosted at its regular monthly meeting Oviedo Chief of Police Jeffrey Chudnow. We had a profitable time discussing the community implications of the upcoming trial of George Zimmerman for the death of Trayvon Martin.
The occasion for this special time of prayer is the beginning of jury selection in this trial. We intend to pray not only for the specifics of this particular situation but also for the broader issues of justice and unity which this case has stirred. We will pray for our leaders; particularly for those charged with guarding public safety. We will pray for our churches, that God will bring revival and that his Spirit will through his church bring change to a needy community.
Though prayer will be led by the ministers, we are inviting whomever would like to join us. We envision a diverse gathering of God's people united in a heartfelt desire to see God's glory cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.
We are looking for ministers to commit to being a part of this. If you are an Oviedo area minister and you intend to join us, indicate so by replying to this email with that commitment. Even though this is short notice, we are hoping that many from across denominational and racial lines will join in this effort.
Though we are in Oviedo, and not Sanford, and though our congregations may have little directly to do with the issues stirred by this case, we are nevertheless citizens together of Seminole County. Events like this trial can serve to heighten an awareness of the divisions that yet exist among us, divisions we must pray to heal. But as well, such events can heighten a sense of our very real unity. We wish not only to celebrate that unity, but also leverage it in unified prayer for the sake of Christ's kingdom.
We hope that many of you can be a part.
