Dear Friends,

I read a fascinating article this past week by Thom Rainer, Autopsy of a Deceased Church, 11 Things I Learned. (Click Here)  This article echoes some of the discussion led by Bishop Brewer regarding our diocesan ministry and vision and how we need to be reaching out to our communities and neighborhoods.

This coming Sunday, May 5th,  The Rev. Stephen Daas and his wife Mary will be visiting with us.  They are Diocesan Missionaries to Brazil and will be leaving shortly to start work with the street orphans of São Paulo.  This summer, James Morical will be traveling to Honduras engaged in a significant outreach (http://www.1nation1day.com/vision). You can download a flyer about his mission Click Here   Hannah Nelson will be traveling to New Mexico working with Kings Kids Click Here   (Both James and Hannah can you use your prayers and financial support)   Others may be headed out to other destinations.

Regardless of the ways in which we will reach out around the world by giving and going, we have a mission that begins here in this community - reaching out and sharing God's love with those around us.   A good model for missions comes from Acts and we should be reminded... "But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth"   (Acts 1:8)  We start in Oviedo / Winter Springs / UCF / Chuluota / Geneva.  This is our Jerusalem!  We move out from their to the city of Orlando; The State of Florida; onto the nation, USA;  and finally the whole world.  As we approach Pentecost may it be for us, a commissioning into the world to proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ, beginning here. Come Holy Spirit and empower us! Join us...

in the Mission,
Fr. Jon+
