F ather in heaven, who at the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan proclaimed him your beloved Son and anointed him with the Holy Spirit: Grant that all who are baptized into his Name may keep the covenant they have made, and boldly confess him as Lord and Savior; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Dear Friends,
On Sunday we had the celebration of Holy Baptism for Kyle Cartee and weaving into the service the Blessing of an Adoption for the whole Cartee family; all of this plus preaching, singing, praying, giving made for a rich experience in worship!
I was taken by the moment in the service where this family exchanged vows... Will you have this woman to be your mother? Will you have this man to be your father? Will you have these Children as your own? A very moving moment to see a family formed. Joyful, hopeful, tender and precious; prayers answered and a glimpse of something deeper and eternal if we will look to see.
I could not help but think about how we have been grafted into Christ, born anew in the waters of baptism and adopted as children of God. As the liturgy says... sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ's own forever.
Almighty God made His covenant with us, sending His Son and though the redemptive work of Christ Jesus on His cross, He offers himself to us. He has taken his vow by enduring the pain and suffering, the agony and shed blood, mocked and scorned by the ones He came to save. Now resurrected, glorified and reigning in majesty making intercession for us. He simply asks, Will you be mine?
Will we take him as Savior and Lord, Redeemer and King, Everlasting Father? Each day is an opportunity to know the Lord more and more; through His Holy Word, through prayer, fellowship and service, loving others, we confess: I am yours and You are mine. Something to think about...
