++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Dear Friends, I have just returned from a very full weekend on the youth ADVENT-ure retreat. It was a blessed journey as you can see...  You can see more pictures - Click Here We prayed, sang, laughed, cried, hiked, ate, slept, drove, and more on a trek through the North Carolina and South Carolina mountains. I believe lives were touched and filled with the Holy Spirit and the fruit from this time will be significant. We received news of the tragedy in Newtown Connecticut on Friday afternoon and were as shocked and dismayed as everyone. You can listen to Pastor Robin's sermon from Sunday which spoke directly to this unthinkable tragedy and violence ( click here). At the retreat, we gathered that night and I shared with the group. On December 28th in the church calendar we remember Holy Innocents, the slaughter of Children in Bethlehem, after the birth of Jesus. Some how the collect from that day seems very appropriate, here it is with a couple of minor edits... We remember today, O God, the slaughter of the holy innocents of Bethlehem by King Herod. Receive,
we pray, into the arms of your mercy all innocent
victims; especially those who were slain in the
massacre in Newtown Connecticut and by your great
might frustrate the designs of evil tyrants and those
who perpetrate evil and establish your rule of justice,
love, and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who
lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Please keep this community, our nation and the world in your prayers and may we all long for His Kingdom come and His will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. May you have a blessed week as we prepare to greet the New Born King afresh and to see the Light of Christ dispel the darkness...
