Crystal Palace is on Instagram!
Instagram is a popular social media outlet for the fiber world. It celebrates visual communication (which the stitching art world is all about) and helps to keep our yarn communities alive. So many of us are connected to our devices. Of course, smartphones and the like are no substitute to holding a pair of needles or a hook in your hands and creating something with yarn. However, if we are not in the act of knitting or crocheting at the time, we might as well be messaging about it. And it is quick - just snap a picture with your phone and post to your account - so you can resume your crafting in a blink of an eye. I admit, it took me a little time to get cozy with the app, but once I did, I fell in love!

New FREE Patterns:
Mosaic in Allegro DK & Mochi Plus
This month, we are featuring three new free knit mosaic patterns. The first is called the Flying Geese Scarf in two contrasting colors of Allegro DK. It reminds me of the Lumosity game with migrating birds. Do you know the one? Anyway, the design is stunning, and it is not difficult. The mosaic pattern is made by slipping stitches. You only use one color at a time and slip the other color according to the chart pattern. This scarf is knit in two halves and seamed in the middle for symmetry, but you could easily do it all in one piece as well. It takes two skeins each of Allegro DK to make.
We will be offering this scarf as a kit for Fall 2016, so stay tuned for information on that.
Next is the Mosaic Tile Scarf, designed using one color of Mochi Plus with one color of Allegro DK. This mosaic is also created by the slipped-stitch method. Be on the lookout for the kit as well. It takes just one ball/skein of each to make.
Here is the matching hat. The Mosaic Tile Hat is also made with one ball of Mochi Plus and one skein of Allegro DK. The side mosaic edging is knit back and forth, while the crown is worked in the round. The pattern gives the option of either leaving the mosaic seam open or sewing it up.

Indie Crochet News:
Panda Silk in the New Book by Shibaguyz
Take the masterful designs of the talented Shannon Mullet-Bowlsby and couple them with stunning photography by partner Jason Mullet-Bowlsby, and you have the force known to the creative world as Shibaguyz. Crochet Geometry: Geometric Patterns to Fit and Flatter is the hottest new crochet book by the talented duo.
Shannon's designs are carefully thought-out garments using simple, geometric shapes. The projects, all sized from Small to 5X, are both on trend and extremely wearable. The Wrap Front Shrug is one such design. Crocheted in our luscious Panda Silk, this cover up is fun, unique and practical. "Sometimes the simplest design makes the most dramatic statement," writes the designer, "and this wrap front speaks volumes. This unique accessory combines the best of a shrug with the drama of a wrap."
