Faux Fur is Back!

A
ccording to the current issue of the industry-based Yarn Market News and several yarn shops, the faux fur look is quite in these days.  And why not?  It is fun, flashy and works up quickly.  "As a runway trend, fur is here to stay," writes Christina Behnke in the article "Go with the Faux." (YMN January 2016).  "Yarn companies have followed suit, offering more innovations in faux-fur yarns than ever before."

Vegan Fox

Crystal Palace has been supplying these fashion yarns for years.  Our Splash and Fizz yarns are especially great for getting that fashionable, vegan look.  In fact, one example of this is the Vegan Fox pattern by Fuzzy Galore, which is a free pattern on Knitty.com.  This pattern uses Splash and Fizz with a brushed merino yarn, for which you could easily substitute Inca Clouds or Allegro Aran.

Natalie Fur Cape

Another inspiring project is the Natalie Fur Cape by Annie Modesitt from the book History on Two Needles. Like all the designs in this book, the Natalie Fur Cape is inspired by a historical work of art. in this case, a painting entitled Natalie Clifford Barney in fur cape by Alice Pike Barney (c.1905).  It is knitted in Splash colors 7181 "Jaguar", 202 "Black" and 7185 "Sable".  It is a great way to accessorize an out-on-the-town outfit.  It takes a total of six balls to make. You can buy the individual pattern on Ravelry.

Collar Royale in Splash

Another elegant Splash wrap is the Collar Royale by Wilhelmine Peers, a free pattern on our website.  This Ermine-style stole is fun and elegant at the same time.  Wear it with a simple black dress to turn heads.  It takes two balls of 201 "Ivory White" and one ball of 202 "Jet Black" to make.
FREE Knit Pattern:
Panda Wings Shawl

Panda Silk Wings Shawl

Concentric lace semi-circles make up the amazing Wings Shawl, a free pattern on our website. The lace design is quickly memorized, so you can relax and enjoy the feel of luxurious Panda Silk gliding through your fingers as the pattern emerges.  The project takes one ball each of five colors to make.

Another free pattern from Jessie Rayot is fresh off the virtual presses!  The Looped in Love Skirt, designed in Allegro DK, is just in time for Valentine's Day.  Work one up in these rosy shades, or choose from countless color combos from the extensive Allegro DK palette.  This intermediate-level project is worked form the top down and features increases in the spines created by the Jacob's Ladder crochet stitch.  The pattern is sized child (24" hip) to 5x (60" hip).  The skirt takes roughly 6-20 skeins, depending upon hip size and desired length.  The sample is shown in the 2x size and took 13 skeins to make.

Last month we featured the adorable Corduroy Ridge Tunisian Slouchy Hat by Stephanie Pokorny.  This month, we are featuring another fabulous Chunky Mochi pattern by the designer.  The Be Mine Candy Cabled Cowl (say that there times fast!) is cute and cozy.  It features a twisted version of Jacob's ladder, a crochet stitch which forms a raised ribbing over a background of solid stitches.  Her choice of color, 811 "Baby Face", was inspired by the sweet pastel shades of the Sweetheart Valentine's candy.  This pattern is generously offered for free and takes three balls of super soft Chunky Mochi to make.
