Happy New Year! We hope everyone is successfully battling the winter chill with wonderful yarn projects!
Panda Pearl came on the scene in October, and it has been wildly, enthusiastically received. This incredibly soft and silky yarn has inspired many new projects, including the free Market Shawl and Spider Lattice Scarf patterns and the new indie cowl, Meandering Shawl.
Other new patterns include the Cotton Twirl Sloucy Hat (free), the Leonardo Shawl in Mini Mochi (indie) and the Plum Pudding Shawl in Merino 5.
We have new spring colors in many of our yarns, so be sure to look for them in your local or online shops.

New Spring Colors of Panda Cotton Stria Dyed

New Spring 2015 colors have just arrived in many of our yarns, including Cotton Twirl, Little Flowers, Panda Cotton and Party Ribbon. Let these vibrant shades inspire you in anticipation of warmer weather.
Cotton Twirl is a wonderful 90/10% cotton/elastic nylon blend that has wonderful texture and feel and is a pleasure to knit or crochet. Check out the new Lacy Slouch Hat and other free Cotton Twirl patterns on our website.
Little Flowers is a fun, sparkling, add-along yarn that adds pizzazz to projects. It is great for year-round projects. See Little Flowers patterns for project ideas.
Panda Cotton is a cool and comfortable blend of bamboo, cotton and elastic nylon. The new colors are part of the Stria-Dyed series, a dyeing technique that creates wonderful slow-patterning effects. There are many free and indie Panda Cotton patterns available, like the Two-Up Twist Socks.
Party Ribbon is a shiny, year-round ribbon that works in shawls, scarves, knit and crochet jewelry and more. Check out the Party Projects on Ravelry for lots of project ideas.

Market Shawl in Panda Pearl
The Market Shawl is brand new on the Crystal Palace website. It is a lovely lace shawl knit in spectacular Panda Pearl. The sample is shown in 9120 "Spice Market", the inspiration for the pattern title. Whether you are out at the market or snuggled up at home with a good book, the Market Shawl is a beautiful accessory that is soft and elegant. It features a pointed lace pattern throughout, with garter and picot-edge finishing. The sheen and silky softness of Panda Pearl make this shawl a delight to knit and wear. It takes two 100-gram skeins to make.

Lacy Slouch Hat in Cotton Twirl
Cotton Twirl is the perfect yarn for the springy new Lacy Slouch Hat pattern. This hat is great to wear and fun to work up, good especially for those transitional months. Double yarn overs and basic decreasing form the alternating bands of rib and laddered lace. Cotton Twirl's elasticity adds extra comfort. This hat looks lovely in the sample color, 2922 "Mirage", or in any of the other 40+ Cotton Twirl shades, including the three new shades for spring. It is a very affordable project, taking only two 50-gram balls to make.

Spider Lattice Scarf in Panda Pearl
Also new on our website is the free Spider Lattice Scarf pattern. This lacy, crocheted scarf is incredibly soft and has excellent drape in Panda Pearl. The scarf features a web-like lattice design that is repeated over 8 rows. The scarf will have a tendency to pull in while working it, but it will flatten out nicely after blocking. I takes just one 100-gram skein to make.

Bluebird Blanket Charity
Bluebird Yarn & Fiber Crafts of Sausalito, CA is sponsoring a 100-Blanket Charity Knit Along to benefit the UCSF Children's Hospital in San Francisco. The goal is to knit at least 100 blankets by March 15 to donate to the hospital. The blanket is a simple garter stitch pattern in five colors of Crystal Palace Cuddles which correspond to the hospital's logo. Kits can be purchased at Bluebird. For an extra incentive, Bluebird will donate between $1 and $5 for each blanket, depending upon when the blanket is received. Click here for complete details.

Leonardo Shawl in Mini Mochi
The Leonardo Shawl by Very Busy Monkey is one of several patterns that is featured in VBM Shawl Collection 7 - Scientists, a new eBook available on Ravelry. Leonardo di Vinci's study of proportions in nature is the inspiration for this eye-catching accessory. "This shawl consists of three design/construction elements, all worked entirely in garter," writes the designer. "These three design elements can be combined in three different ways to create different effects in the final product." This sample is shown in Mini Mochi 333 "Grand Canyon" and only took two balls to make. Go to Ravelry to purchase either the single pattern or the entire eBook.

Meandering Life is a beautiful new indie pattern designed by Knitique in our luxurious Panda Pearl (shown here is rich 7041 "Morgan Green"). The design features a block-weave pattern with a unique cabled edge. It takes two 100-gram skeins to make.

Plum Pudding Shawl by Tamara Kelly
The Plum Pudding Shawl is a new design by Tamara Kelly, appearing in the February 2015 issue of the digital magazine, I Like Crochet by Prime Publishing. This flattering shawl is made using a repeating V-stitch in Crystal Palace Merino 5.
