Danube
New Fall 2014 Colors Have Arrived!
We just received the fabulously electric new Fall 2014 colors of Danube. Check your local and online shops for these new shades.
Danube is a luxurious, affordable yarn that comes in 3 weights: DK, Aran and Bulky. Danube is made of slow-striping fiber with silk-like flecks and has a handspun look. The color changes flow together like the European river after which it is named. Danube is very soft and has a lovely sheen.
DK: 163 yds/~50 gr. 5.25-5.75 sts/inch Aran: 119 yds/~50 gr. 4.25-4.75 sts/inch Bulky: 81 yds/~50 gr. 3-3.5 sts/inch There are free and indie patterns in Danube, including the Mitered Diamond Shawl in Danube DK and the Ruffled Shawl in Danube Aran.

Sausalito
New Fall 2014 Colors Have Arrived!
The mouth-watering new colors of Sausalito have arrived, and boy, are they delicious! Choose from 8468 "Pesto", 8469 "Chipotle", 8470 "Curry" and 8472 "Plum Chutney, or, heck, add all four to your stash.
Sausalito is a two-ply cousin of Mini Mochi. For these new colors, one ply has a gradual stripe pattern and one ply is solid, so you get both slow-striping and tweedy effects. Because of its loftiness, Sausalito can be knit from fingering-weight to sport-weight gauges. It is also lovely in crochet. Be sure to check out our free Sausalito patterns, like the 2-ball Shawlette, for project ideas.

FREE Knit Patterns:
Shawls, Shawls, Shawls
There are three new Crystal Palace shawl patterns available free online, with more coming later this summer.
The Sweet Alyssum Shawl is elegant in silky soft Panda Silk. This pattern, originally designed in Kid Merino by Lisa Dykstra, is made up of basic lace repeats enhanced with garter ridges. (See original Kid Merino pattern here.) The edge is decorated with eyelets and finished off with delicate picot bind-off. The shawl is started at the top. The triangle is formed by yarn-over increases at the edges and center. It takes three balls to make.
The Mitered Diamond Shawl is designed by Gail Tanquary in lovely Danube DK. The Spring 2014 color "Candy Store" really pops in this design. Mitered diamonds are formed by double decreases at the center of each motif. Stitches are picked up as you work subsequent motifs. Danube DK's slow-striping is accentuated by the diamond shape and garter ridges. This showy wrap takes six balls to make.
The Ruffled Shawl, also designed by Gail Tanquary, is a lovely shawlette that is great to wear. It is knit in Danube Aran. It has a ruffled garter-stitch bottom edge. Short rows are worked to form concentric half circles. Try it in one of the new Fall 2014 colors for a wrap that really pops. The shawl takes four balls to make for the Small/Medium version and seven balls for the Large.
Stay tuned to straw.com and the next issue of Purls for more beautiful new shawl patterns.

Indie News:
Chloris Sontag Shawl in Enchanted Knits

Enchanted Knits is the new special issue magazine by Interweave Press. It features a generous selection of 27 fairytale-inspired designs, including one using Crystal Palace Yarns.
Chloris Sontag Shawl, designed by Alexandria Volt, is very beautiful and quite unusual. The pattern is aptly named; Chloris is the goddess of flowers and plants, and the colors and construction of the piece certainly have a botanical quality. The designer uses a creative combination of earth and forest tones in feather-light Kid Merino and slow-striping Mochi Plus to create this whimsical wrap.
The digital copy of Enchanted Knits is available now, with the hard copy due out August 5, 2014. Purchase your copy at your local yarn shop or on the Interweave Press website.
