New Colors in Stores Soon
Ooooooh....ahhhhhh....the new Spring colors of Danube are almost here!
Danube is a slow-striping, woolen blend with silky sheen, tweedy flecks and wonderfully soft hand. It comes in three different weights: DK, Aran and Bulky.
DK - 163 yds/~50 gr. 5.25-5.75 sts/inch
Aran - 119 yds/~50 gr. 4.25-4.75 sts/inch
Bulky - 81 yds/~50 gr. 3-3.5 sts/inch This yarn has a wonderful look and feel and drapes very well. The colors are deep and beautiful. Choose from "Candy Store", "Fruit Parfait" and "Fire & Ice", or get all three. We have fabulous new free Danube patterns available, some of which are done in these new shades. In addition to these spring shades, we will be adding five new shades for fall. We expect these new fall shades early-to-mid summer. Stay tuned for details on this extended range.

Stunning Wedding Dress in Party Ribbon
 |
Photos by The Reason
|
When we received the request from K2Tog to order 40 balls of Party Ribbon in 207 "Cloud Cream" for Janet Hollingsworth to crochet her daughter Melanie's wedding dress, we in the office were a bit dubious. Well, she showed us.
The wedding dress was incredibly beautiful. In addition to her daughter's delight at the outcome, the dress was featured in the Best of Southern Weddings 2012: Wedding Gowns. The dress is a sleeveless, fitted, mermaid-like gown with delicately embellished sash. This dress is truly amazing, down to the last detail. The Pabst Blue Ribbon label sewn on the inside of the skirt, the "something blue" which was a homage to Janet's father-in-law's occupation as a PBR distributor, was the finishing touch. You can see more of the wedding photos on the photographer's website.
We were fortunate to meet Janet last month for a quick visit while she was out on the West Coast for business. We sent her off with some samples of our yarn and discussed her designing ideas. Who knows, maybe we will see more of her designs some day.

FREE Knit Patterns: Danube
Oh, how we love those two-ball projects! We have new Danube patterns now available, all of which use just two balls to make. Danube is an exciting, slow-striping, woo/rayon/nylon blend that comes in DK, Aran and Bulky weights.
The Bandana Cowl is knitted in Danube Aran color 308 "Passion Flower". It is a clever triangular cowl that is worked partially back and forth and finished up in the round. It features an eyelet lace stitch, with increases and decreases to form the triangle.
The Diamond Lace Cowl is superb in Danube Bulky 309 "Candy Store", a brand new color available starting in May. The piece is worked back and forth and then sewed up at the ends. The knitter gets extra bang for their knitting time with the gorgeous color changes, adding visual interest to the already lovely lace design. This cowl is a great way to get into lace knitting. The end result is soft and elegant.
I just love the Big Cable Scarf done in Danube Bulky 911 "Fire and Ice", another new Spring 2014 shade. This soft scarf features a central cable panel with seed-stitch edging. It is so cozy, and works up quickly with just two balls.

The Granny Square Afghan is warm and cuddly soft in Crystal Palace Cuddles. This baby blanket consists of 16 traditional granny squares with an outer border. The pattern calls for one main color and two contrasting colors. It works up quickly and will keep those little tikes toasty on chilly spring walks.

Indie Knitting News:
Panda Silk in Print
The Panda Silk is the yarn for projects this season! It is featured in two magazines in three delightful designs. Panda Silk is a luxurious fingering-weight yarn made from a blend of bamboo, merino and silk. It continues to be popular for shops, knitters, crocheters and designers.
Celeste, designed by Sandi Prosser, is featured in the Summer 2014 issue of Creative Knitting. This cardigan, part of their Ethereal Delights theme, is made of stockinette stitch with lace accents on the cuffs and collar. It looks gorgeous in 3038 "Mango". It takes 7-10 balls to make. Panda Silk is featured in two projects in the June 2014 issue of KNITStyle. KNITStyle is the new incarnation of Knit 'n Style, with a new look and a new focus on fashion-forward designs.
The Diamond District Top by Laura Zukaite is an adorable short-sleeve top with an all over diamond lace pattern. The 5203 "Biscotti" print offers light and subtle color variation while keeping the diamond pattern stitch prominent. It takes 5-7 balls to make.
The second Panda Silk project in this issue of KNITStyle is the Shades of Summer Necklace by Kathy Perry. Knitted and crocheted jewelry is becoming quite popular. This necklace is done in seed stitch with a clever pre-strung beaded fringe on the edge. The color chosen for the project, 5140 "Blue Lagoon" makes it look like it is made of turquoise. This is a superb necklace for summertime. Can you just imagine wearing it with a white linen dress? It is an excellent one-ball project that is rated Easy.

Gorgeous Siena Serenade in Mini Solid
Carol Wells' patterns are beautiful, from her Entrelac accessories like the Charmed Baby Hat and Entrelac Rainbow Cowl in Mini Mochi, to her stunning Cecelia's Song Dress in Mini Mochi and Mini Solid. Her fashion consciousness and attention to detail are outstanding, and she designs in such a thoughtful way that accentuates the individual characteristics of each yarn she uses.
Now Carol is at it again. Her latest Crystal Palace creation, Siena Serenade, is exquisite. The single-plied Mini Solid adds just enough softness to the design while still keeping wonderful stitch definition. "Combining the age-old traditional twisted stitch technique from the Austrian Alps with a thoroughly modern silhouette," the designer writes, "this design brings together beautiful stitches and flattering style." Well said. This sweater is very wearable, both in comfort and in style.
