Crochet Basics Video

Crystal Palace Presents: Crochet Basics.

Why not start a new craft this year?  Crochet is hot, both on the runway and among yarnie crafters.   There are so many beautiful patterns and other online and in-print resources for crocheters, it is hard not to be inspired to join in the fun.

Our new video, Crochet Basics, covers all the basic techniques for beginning crocheters, including the Foundation Chain, Single Crochet, Single Crochet Foundation, Double Crochet, Half Double Crochet and Slip Stitch.  The techniques are also available in individual segments for quicker reference.

All techniques are demonstrated by yours truly using Crystal Palace Chunky Mochi and a Crystal Palace Bamboo Crochet Hook.  The Mochi yarns - Mini Mochi, Mochi Plus and Chunky Mochi - are all excellent choices for crochet because of their beautiful, slow-striping color effects that make even the simplest projects gorgeous.  Some examples are the Crochet Block Scarf in Mini Mochi, the Simple Scarf in Mochi Plus and the Super Quick & Easy Scarf in Chunky Mochi. Check out the videos on the Crystal Palace Yarns Channel on YouTube to learn crochet or to brush up on your skills.

A special thanks to Gerry Beyer for his excellent editing and Ukulele skills.

FREE Knit Patterns:
Nocturne Scarf & 12" Circ Baby Hat
12Panda Cotton Baby Hats

We have two free patterns up!

The Twin Peaks Baby Hat is designed in Panda Cotton and uses the new Crystal Palace Bamboo 12" Circular S & L Needles; there is no need for double-points!  Watch the stitches fly with this great needle. Panda Cotton keeps it nice and stretchy, and the Stria color adds extra fun.  This is a great pattern for newborns.  It uses less than one ball to make.  In fact, two balls will yield three hats with some yarn left over.

Nocturne Knit Scarf Nocturne has arrived!  Try our first pattern using this scrumptious new yarn.  The Eyelet Knit Scarf is lusciously soft and quite eye-catching in Nocturne Aran. It features an eyelet-accented, zig-zag pattern.  It is extra soft and cozy, great for these cold winter days.  It takes three balls to make.

Be on the lookout for more Nocturne patterns coming soon!

Indie Knitting News:
Amazing Color Effects of Mini Mochi
Sviare in Mini Mochi

Wow!  Heather Zoppetti is at it again.  Her jaw-dropping Sviare scarf is gorgeous and mesmerizing.  Be prepared to be stopped on the street when you where this out. The pattern combines Mini Mochi 303 "Spice Market" with Mini Solid 1105 "Walnut Brown".  The color pattern and contrasting shades give the piece an optical-illusion feel.  It takes just two balls of each yarn to make.

Check out all of Heather's fab designs on Ravelry and on her website, including Allotropy, also done in Mini Mochi and Mini Solid.

Entrelac Dress in Min iMochi Another amazingly beautiful Mini Mochi and Mini Solid combo is Cecilia's Song Entrelac Dress by Carol Wells.  It is worked from the top down.  The slow-striping, entrelac yoke is shown in Mini Mochi 326 "Citron Mist", while the body is made up of a cabled pattern in Mini Solid 1100 "Natural Ecru".  This dress is flattering and fashionable.  The first time I saw it, I was in love!

Visit Ravelry for more incredible enterlac projects from Carol Wells.
