Greetings!

Danube Happy Thanksgiving!  There is no better activity that I can think of to do while digesting large amounts of food than to knit or crochet, can you?  We have so many new free patterns available, including several in the new Danube.  Our indie designers offer even more for holiday inspiration.  Check them out on our website.

In December, we will be receiving our new 12" Short & Long Circular needles in fine, high-quality Crystal Palace Bamboo.  Read about these fab and fun new needles below.

Sincerely,

12" Short & Long Circular Bamboo

12 Circular knitting is made easier with the new 12" Short & Long (S & L) Circular Classic Bamboo Needles by Crystal Palace.

One tip is shorter than the other, which allows for greater flexibility in the cable.  We recommend using the longer tip as your working tip, but preference for the working tip may vary from knitter to knitter.

When you need a little extra flexibility for those narrow circular pieces, try the new 12" S & L's.  They are great for baby hats, sweater sleeves, legwarmers, toys and more!

Available in US sizes 3-8.

Due in stores Winter 2013 / 2014
Danube
A Slow-Striping Yarn in DK, Aran & Bulky
Danube

Danube is an exciting new line of yarns from Crystal Palace.  It is available in DK, Aran and Bulky weights, in seven beautiful color ways.  It is made of slow-striping fiber with silk-like flecks and has a hand-spun look.  The color changes flow together like the European river after which it is named.  It is very soft and has a light sheen.  Danube is luxurious and affordable.

Fiber: 40% nylon/30% wool/30% rayon

DK: 163 yds/~50 gr. 5.25-5.75 sts/in
Aran: 119 yds/~50 gr. 4.25-4.75 sts/in

Danube Drop St Cowl
Danube has arrived, and we have several knit patterns up on our website.

The Drop Stitch Cowl in Danube DK is an easy one-ball cowl that is beautiful, light and airy.  It uses dropped yarn-over stitches to create bands of simple lace.  It is worked back and forth, then the ends are sewn together to create the cowl.  Check out the Sausalito version as well.

Fitted Chevron Hat in Chunky Mochi

We also have three hat patterns done in Danube Bulky: the Lacy Flapper Hat, the Knotted Lace Hat and the Fitted Chevron Hat.  The Lacy Flapper Hat is a sweet cap with eyelet accents and rolled brim.  The Knotted Lacy Hat features an all-over lace pattern.  The Fitted Chevron Hat features a slightly-rolled, scalloped edge and chevron increases and decreases. All three stylish hats use just one ball each.

Easy Peacock CowlIn addition to Danube, we have new knit patterns in Gold Rush and Chunky Mochi as well.  Add a little glitter to your winter accessories with Gold Rush. The Easy Peacock Cowl cowl is cozy and fun.  Gold Rush is popular among fashion-seekers for its hip, metallic accents.  This pattern features a feather-and-fan type peacock pattern, worked in the round.  It would make a great beginning lace project.  It takes two balls to make.

Chunky Mochi Hat Lastly is the Roll Brim Lacy Ribbed Hat in a soft, luxurious Chunky Mochi. This is a close fitting hat with lovely eyelet ribbing.  It looks scrumptious in the 845 "Drama" color way, new this fall.  It takes two balls to make.

Dnaube DK Shell CowlWe have added more patterns to our free crochet pattern collection.

Danube is brand new, and it is proving to be great for crochet.  The Shell Cowl is done in Danube DK on a J hook for fast and fun completion.  It is a basic shell pattern that is appropriate for any crocheter who is ready to go beyond the basics of single and double crochet. The cowl feels and looks great around your neck.
The pattern is written for both a short or long version, and takes two (short version) or five (long version) balls to make.

Danube Aran Tweed Hat We also have added the unisex Tweed Hat  in Danube Aran. It is worked in single crochet in a spiral.  The herringbone-type diagonal bands that accent the hat are made by working each stitch in the back loop only.  This hat is rated Easy for those with experience in single crochet and working in the round.  Our Inventory Manager, Loring, loves wearing his around our chilly warehouse.  This is great for an advanced beginner or seasoned crocheter.  And oh, how fast it goes!   It takes one to two balls to make.

I
Chunky Mochi Comfort Zonen addition to the Danube crochet projects, we also have a new Chunky Mochi crocheted scarf.  The Comfort Zone Scarf is well-named.  It uses delectable Chunky Mochi with a wide-diameter crochet hook (P/Q recommended) for a fast, super soft and warm piece.  It is also a favorite in the warehouse.  It uses a simple shell pattern throughout.  It can be easily converted to a cowl by sewing the ends together and takes five balls to make.
Indie Knitting News:
Mini Mochi Entrelac

Mini Mochi Entrelac Cowl
While perusing the extensive project and pattern pages on Ravelry, I happened upon this gorgeous Entrelac Rainbow Cowl in Mini Mochi (right).  And then I happened upon another beautiful entrelac creation.  And then another.  And then another.  All these beautiful patterns were designed by the talented Carol Wells, who sells her patterns
through Ravelry downloads.  We have recently added these beauties to our Indie Patterns.

The Entrelac Rainbow Cowl is worked flat in Mini Mochi and then sewn up at the seam, where the edges of the entrelac fit neatly together for a seamless look.  It is an excellent project for learning entrelac.  One can focus on the stitch while the color changes happen automatically.

Checkered Entrelac in Mini Mochi Want to take it up a notch?  Try the Celestial Charm Baby Hat or the Checkered Chess Champ Enterlac Hat.  Learn entrelac in the round with one of these great hats.  The Celestial Charm Baby Hat is done in Mini Mochi, while the Checkered Entrelac Hat is done in Sausalito.  Again, work the entrelac technique and watch the beautiful colors unfold.

The designer's latest creation is a fabulous Hot Cocoa Entrelac Legwarmers pattern in Mini Mochi.  These both flatter and keep you warm, with tapered bottom for proper fit.  "For simplicity, the legwarmers are worked in the round in variegated yarn for the easiest option, writes the designer.  "Knitting in the round with entrelac gives a perfectly seamless, beautiful finished project with no hints of transitions at the beginning of rounds whatsoever." The pattern is worked while Mini Mochi does all the color-changing.  These great legwarmers are timely for the winter months. They are sized pre-teen to adult.

Apple of My Eye Baby Sweater But wait, there is more!  If you want to take the technique yet another step further, there is the Apple of My Eye Baby Sweater. Shown in both 106 "Strawberry-Limes" and 105 "Tapestry Rainbow", this jacket/sweater is great for both boys and girls for ages 3-12 months. It takes five to six balls to make

Mochi Plus Slouch Hats

Rhiannon
We have added two new Mochi Plus slouch hat patterns designed by Justine Walley to the Indie Patterns section of our website:  The Rhiannon Slouch Hat (top) and the Opal Slouchy Hat (bottom).  "(The Rhiannon Slouch Hat) pattern is for a stunning, easier-than-it-looks slouchy hat with a gorgeous shell stitch pattern," writes the designer.  "Self-striping yarn brings this hat's simple stitch pattern to life for a beautiful finished project that is easy and quick to work up, perfect for a beginner crocheter!"  The Opal Slouchy features "overlapping central flower motif and a lovely wave stitch pattern."

Opal Slouchy Hat The Rhiannon Slouch Hat is rated Beginner with some single-crochet and double-crochet experience, while the Opal Slouchy is rated Intermediate.  Both take only two balls each and look great in slow-striping Mochi Plus.
