Greetings!

October is a great time to focus on the holidays ahead.  We have new Sausalito colors and many new fall Free and Indie Patterns.  The major magazine publishers are releasing their gift issues, like the Love of Knitting Holiday 2013 and Interweave Crochet Accessories 2014, both of which include patterns done in Crystal Palace Yarns.  HeartStrings FiberArts is offering a promotional coupon for a brand new Mini Mochi pattern.  We have added more Free Patterns, which often have a focus on accessories and on quicker projects, perfect for gift-making.

It is also an excellent time for sports knitting. We have added a new team spirit pattern to support your fall and winter teams.

And be sure to watch the video interview with Susan Druding by Yarn Review Daily, filmed at TNNA in Long Beach.

Sincerely,

Cathy Campbell

New Sausalito Colors Have Arrived!
Sausalito Fall 2013
The new Fall 2013 Sausalito colors are in!  Sausalito is quickly becoming a star in the Crystal Palace line.  It is a two-ply, fingering-to-sport-weight yarn that is both slow-striping and tweedy.  These five new colors consist of one ply that is a slow-striping Mini Mochi color and the other that is a coordinating solid.  The effect is fabulous.

We have already put these beauties in the hands of some designers, so expect to see new patterns soon.  See the current Sausalito patterns for inspiration.

Mochi Plus 634
We just wrapped up another successful giveaway contest.  This one was for a chance to win balls of the new Fall 2013
Mini Mochi or Mochi Plus color ways.  We had one Grand Prize winner, Evelyn S. and two Runners-up, Doris T. and Jeanne C.

As a part of the contest form, we asked people not only to enter their favorite color, but also to write a little bit about what they would do with the yarn if they won.  The answers ranged from one or two word answers to whole paragraphs, and many were quite thoughtful.   One of the Runners-up, Doris T., wrote a particularly moving entry:

"I would crochet a hat and scarf for a child in the Tomorrows Children Pediatric Cancer Center.  I myself have cancer and like to help others, especially young children whose lives I hope will be able to be adults.  All my crocheting goes to cancer patients."

The contest winners were chosen at random and were not judged on the answer to this question, but I have to say that I am sure glad Doris was among them.

The new three colors were actually quite close in popularity.  "Passion Flower" had 137 votes, "Yosemite" had 130 and "Grand Canyon" had 121.

FREE Knit Pattern: Child's Team Pom-Pom Hat

Child's Team Hat in Merino 5
The Child's Team Pom-Pom Hat is up, just in time for sporting events.  There are a lot of little sports fans out there who need good, warm hats to keep them cozy in the stands.  This easy hat is knitted in soft and lustrous Merino 5.  Merino 5 is made of 100% machine-washable merino wool.  It is affordable and a pleasure with which to work.  The hat is knitted in the round with alternating stripes, finished off with a 3-needle bind off and pom-poms.  It takes less than one ball of each color to make.
FREE Crochet Patterns: Mochi Scarves

Simple Scarf in Mochi Plus
I have been utterly fascinated with the color effects that come from crocheting with Mini Mochi and Mochi Plus.  These yarns are slow-striping.  The fiber is dyed before the spinning process, which results in long, gradual shade changes within each color way.  We have two new crochet patterns up that take advantage of these amazing effects.

The Simple Scarf is done in Mochi Plus in the basic double-crochet (dc) stitch.  It is worked over 20 dc's and takes only two balls to make.  This is an excellent beginner project. It uses a Single Crochet Foundation, while the rest is worked back and forth in double crochet.  If you are a beginning crocheter, this scarf is a great way to practice your skills.  The color changes keep it interesting while you are mastering the stitch.  It is great for more experienced crocheters as well, as a quick and relaxing project.  I made the sample model during a camping trip at Big Basin State Park in California.

Once one has mastered the Simple Scarf, she or he can take her or his skills to the next level with the Crochet Block Scarf designed in Mini Mochi.  I absolutely love the way the color changes in the incredibly gorgeous "Yosemite" color way, one of the new Fall 2013 shades.  All the color changes happen on their own, and each block they create is unique, adding an immense amount of visual interest.  The pattern calls for a combination of 8" and 4" squares attached by crochet slip stitch.  It only takes three balls to make this 8" wide by 56" long beauty.

Love of Knitting Holiday 2013

Li'l Elf Dog
The talented Lisa Ellis dazzles the pages of Love of Knitting Holiday 2013 with three patterns made in Crystal Palace Merino 5.  Merino 5 is a soft, worsted-weight, 100% machine-washable merino wool yarn that should be a go-to in any knitter's stash.  It has beautiful stitch definition and an amazing color range of solids and prints.

You will love the Li'l Elf Set for that special little pooch in our life.  It is an adorable sweater and bootie set designed for a small dog.  You can change up the colors for a non-holiday or sports-fan set as well.

Elf Stocking
The Elf Stocking is classic in Christmas tones, and is the cover feature in this special issue.  Now is the time for your customers to start knitting those stockings, to avoid staying up all Christmas Eve to finish (not that I know anything about that, uh hem, uh hem).  One ball in each of three colors and some needles (Crystal Palace Bamboo, perhaps) are all you need.

The Family of Elves tree ornaments are miniature versions of the Elf Stocking.  Use up the rest of your Merino with these quick and fun decorations.  They make excellent gifts, too.

Fantasy Leaves in Mini Mochi

Jackie Erickson-Schweitzer, the amazingly talented woman behind HeartStrings FiberArts, is a prolific designer who is constantly offering new and beautiful hard copy and online knitting patterns.  Many of her patterns are designed using Crystal Palace Yarns.  Her Peek-a-Bead Scarf published in 2011 has been wildly popular.  Recently, Jackie published four new patterns featuring CPY.

The Fantasy Leaves Scarfette (pictured to the right) is her most recent creation, a string of leaf motifs knitted in Mini Mochi 329 "Cherries Jubilee".  The amazing Mini Mochi's gradual slow-striping allows for exquisitely soft shade changes.

Anderson in Interweave's new special issue, Interweave Crochet Accessories 2014.  These mittens look great in Mini Mochi 323 "Copper-Turquoise".  They are cozy and warm, yet thin enough to fit in your pockets.  They take two to three balls to make.

Although it says 2014, the issue is available now.  Order your copy today and get ready for the cold with these toasty mitts.
