Greetings!

We are just back from the TNNA trade show in Long Beach, and we had great time showing our new products to shops, talking yarn trends, meeting magazine staff and visiting with talented designers.  We were fortunate enough to have the Honeycomb Shadow Stole (below) and Bargello Knits (left margin) on loan from their designers to grace our display tables throughout the show.  This Purls newsletter is chock full of new colors and many free and for purchase designs to whet your Crystal Palace appetite.  Enjoy!

Sincerely,

Cathy Campbell

New Spring Colors!
Mini Mochi, Mochi Plus and Aria

Mini Mochi 329 Spring inspires with gorgeous new colors in Mini Mochi, Mochi Plus and Aria, all due in shops starting in March!  The three new coordinating Mini Mochi and Mochi Plus shades are scrumptious.  "Citron Mist" (#326/626) is delicate with natural lemony-green tones.  "Georgia Peach" (#327/627) is a champagne neutral that is as delicately delicious as its name.  "Cherries Jubilee" (#329/629) is a rich combination of cherry reds, gray mocha and deep red-browns.  Yummy!

Aria 111 The three new colors of Aria are as beautiful and exciting as the operatic characters for whom they are named.  "Musetta," (#110) named for Marcello's love interest in the opera La Bohème, features wine, dark sages and a pop of golden-green.  The color "Aida" (#111), named for the Ethiopian princess in the Verdi opera by the same name, is made up of aquas, turquoise, pale and deep blues that remind us of jewels and Mediterranean seas. Last but not least is "Mme Butterfly" (#112), a mix of emotion and sharp contrast of warm and cool colors.

All of these gorgeous shades will start hitting the yarn shop shelves in March.
New FREE Patterns: Knit

Cuddles DK Chevron ScarfWe have three new free knit patterns up on our website, all done in the cozy and brand new Cuddles DK, now available in your local and online shops.

In the last issue of Purls, we featured a retro-fun Chevron Scarf in Cotton Twirl.  Well, this month we are featuring the same Chevron Scarf pattern in Cuddles DK!  This scarf is a great project for the novice knitter who wants to move beyond the garter scarf, as well as for the seasoned knitter who wants an easy project with interesting stitch pattern and fun colors.  The scarf is knit at a slightly looser gauge than the label suggests to keep the scarf free flowing.

Cuddles DK Little Girl's Dress The Little Girl's Dress made in Cuddles DK is so adorable!  It is sized for girls 1 through 6 years old.  It features raglan sleeves, eyelet accents and picot edges at the sleeves and skirt bottom.  It buttons up in the back and is finished off with a ribbon around the eyelet waist.  Super-soft and super-affordable Cuddles DK make this a great project for that special little angel in your life.

http://www.straw.com/crystalpalaceyarns/patterns/regpatts4/yarnsA-G/cudDK-CblSqBBHat.html Lastly is the Cabled Knotted Baby Hat, a fairly zippy knit and a great way to practice cables.  This baby hat features a braided and 4-stitch cable design with squared top done in 3-needle bind-off.  It is finished off with I-cord knots at each corner.  It is knit in the round and uses less than a ball of Cuddles DK.  In fact, two balls should yield three hats.  This is my go-to hat design for any new baby.  Think about knitting up this cutie for your own child or as a gift.
New FREE Pattern: Crochet
Cotton Twirl Pom-Pom Baby Hat
The Pom-Pom Baby Hat is a fun and easy crochet project, and new on our website.  It features one of the four new 2013 prints of Cotton Twirl, 2245 "Peach Taffy" along with one of the coordinating solids, 2911 "Misty Rose."   The four new Cotton Twirl prints were specifically designed to go with many of the solids in the line.  This hat uses a single-crochet foundation to create an elastic edge, then continued in the round in single crochet.  This is a super project for beginning crocheters, or a quick and cute project for the more experienced stitchers.

Shawls Galore!

Sausalito Delight ShawlWe have many beautiful new knit shawls in the Indie Patterns section of our website.  First is the elegant Sausalito Delight Shawl by Mary Triplett.  This stunning piece is done in rich 8455 "Coreopsis", one of the new Sausalito colors this fall/winter season.  Sausalito is a spectacular choice for shawls.  It is loftier than a lace yarn, so it knits up faster, but it still creates a thin fabric of beautiful lace with wonderful drape. With 198 yards/ball, a few balls go a long way.  This full-sized shawl takes just four balls to make.

Mini Mochi Secret Shawl Virgadean Richmond's Secret Shawl is lovely in Mini Mochi 317 "Seaview".  This three-ball shawl offers a simple lace pattern with sweet scalloped edging.  The gradual color changes of Mini Mochi are emphasized in the wide span of fabric.  This shawl is light, soft and luxurious - an excellent accessory for any time of year.  It is worked on a US size 8 needle, so you will have it done in no time!  Choose from one of the over 30 color ways to match your style and wardrobe.  Consider using one of the new spring colors available in shops next month.  Keep the chill off with this stunning beauty.

Honeycomb Stole by HeartStrings Lastly is another spectacular design from HeartStrings FiberArts.  Jackie Erickson-Schweitzer has designed the exquisite Honeycomb Shadow Stole combining Panda Cotton and Panda Silk for a dreamy cover-up.  The designer writes, "Honeycomb Shadow Lace coordinates a lighter-color textured yarn and a darker color smooth yarn to give 3-dimensional illusion of shadows inside the spaces. Don't worry if you are thinking this looks like complicated colorwork. You'll actually only be knitting with one yarn at a time in each row. This pattern is much easier than it looks!"  It takes only two balls of each yarn to make this eye-catching stole.  The light-weight and fiber blend of Panda Cotton and Panda Silk make this a perfect spring/summer project.

For more shawls in Sausalito, check out the delightful Nymphaea Shawl by Becky Herrick and the Flames of Fall pattern by HeartStrings FiberArts.  See also the HeartStrings Sunset Wrap in Mini Mochi and the Firebird Flight Shawl by Lara Neel in Panda Silk.

Mini Mochi in Crochet! Magazine Winter Issue

Blue Jewels Pullover in Mini Mochi
Crystal Palace is again fortunate to appear in a Crochet! Magazine design.  The current Winter 2012/2013 issue features the Blue Jewels Pullover, designed by Dora Ohrenstein in Mini Mochi 122 "Jenny Lake."  The sweater is done in Tunisian crochet, a sort of hybrid form of crochet that utilizes a crochet hook and one knitting needle.  There is a technique section in the magazine on sweater construction written by the designer, which includes information on how to make raglan sweaters like this one.  This sweater would look good on women of any size, from small to 3X.  It takes six to ten balls of Mini Mochi to make.

And be sure to subscribe to receive the Spring 2013 issue, due out in early April.  There will be three projects featuring Crystal Palace, plus a giveaway contest to win project yarn!   More details will be in upcoming issues of Purls.
