Cultural Art Happenings
 February 2015
We believe the arts and culture play a vital role in our economy and in our children's education. But it's important to have solid data to back up those beliefs.
Recently, the Texas Cultural Trust released the 2015 State of the Arts report that says the arts and culture industry contributes $5.1 billion to the Texas economy and nearly $320 million annually in state sales tax revenue. The report also shows how arts education helps improve student achievement from lowering dropout rates, to greater graduation rates and higher rates of enrollment in higher education. To read the full report, click here.
The arts help prepare students to contribute to our economy. Here in Taylor County, more than 310 arts related businesses created more than 1,225 jobs last year. Supporting the arts and culture industry and providing access to arts education will continue to be a vital part of our mission.

Artfully Yours,

Hardin-Simmons catches comedy bug with "Hay Fever"

In Hardin-Simmons University's "Hay Fever," stage star Judith Bliss, her novelist husband and their two grown children have each invited houseguests for the weekend. But as the Blisses indulge their artistic eccentricities in a hilarious whirlwind of flirtation and histrionics, the guests begin to wonder if they've landed in a madhouse - and if they can survive the weekend with their own wits intact. It's blissfully bad behavior! The show is 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5-7, 12-14 and at 2 p.m. Feb. 15 at Van Ellis Theatre. Directed by HSU's Dr. Victoria Spangler. General admission is $8. Military, seniors and students pay $5. HSU faculty, staff and students are free. For tickets go here.

Written by Adam Bock. Directed by McMurry's Charlie Hukill. The show runs Feb. 12-14, 19-21.
