ASBP Focal Point Banner - The official blood program of the U.S. military
News from the Armed Services Blood Program
Issue No. 71
May 21, 2014
From the Desk Of:
Capt. Roland Fahie, Director, ASBPO

Navy Capt. Roland Fahie, ASBP director

I am truly honored to be taking over the reins at the Armed Services Blood Program Office. It is my goal to ensure that we align with the strategic goals of Dr.  Woodson, our Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, and continue the great work initiated under my friend and former ASBP director, Col. Richard H. McBride. Col. McBride has done a tremendous job leading the ASBPO for the past two years, and I thank him for his outstanding leadership. I want to elicit your support for implementing ASBP policy and supporting our war fighters and their beneficiaries. I also want each of you, whether you are in the military or a civilian, to think about and tell folks what you do. Tell them how important what you do is, and how you globally impact and save the lives of many, as you are an important member of the Armed Services Blood Program.

We've packed plenty of great information in this issue of Focal Point. First off, you'll hear firsthand experiences from Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Taylor who details what it's like to be deployed as a medical logistics technician in Afghanistan. We also feature Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James A. Cody's visit to the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, a retired Navy commander who recently completed his 500th platelet donation and a great blood drive by the 202nd Military Police Battalion on Fort Bliss, Texas.

It is my honor and privilege to be serving in this position, and I look forward to leading our team from the front in the upcoming years as your director. Together, we will continue to save lives and ensure blood is available for our service members and beneficiaries whenever and wherever it is needed.

Respectfully,
Capt. Roland Fahie
