FPN President Speaks to Florida Board of Education on How Philanthropy Is Improving Education
FPN President & CEO David Biemesderfer spoke to the
Florida Board of Education on Oct. 9 about how philanthropy and government in Florida can be effective partners to improve the state's education outcomes. This marked the first time that FPN has ever presented to the Board of Education. Biemesderfer explained to the Board that foundations cannot fill in the holes in the state budget, but that foundations' giving can often be more nimble and flexible than government spending, using their more limited dollars to
fund strategic pilot projects or test out new educational methods or strategies. |

Majority of Companies Increased Giving Last Year; Adopted More Targeted Engagement Approach, New Report Shows
A majority of companies - 60% - reported increased giving levels in 2011 over 2009, but just 40% expect their giving to increase in 2012 from the previous year, according to the latest "Giving in Numbers" report by the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy in association with The Conference Board. The research shows that companies are becoming more focused about their giving: making larger grants to a smaller number of organizations;
targeting more giving where they have community connections; and using the skills and expertise of the business to build their community engagement. |
