Greetings!

We're back baby!

This is Craig Sutton with the November 2014 Costa Rica fishing report and we are stoked to be back where we belong: on the water catching monsters and satisfying clients.

It's been quite an off-season...since we pulled the boats at the end of August we have refit and repainted all our vessels, plus Javier has completed a new office in Guiones Beach.

We already have the Discoverer in the water and Captain David has picked-up right where he left off with some amazing action on Dorado and Wahoo.

This 31-foot battleship is primed to score big this year!

The never-quit Explorer stayed busy this off-season with several great trips reported by Captain Carlos. This boat has redefined expectations for what a 26-foot boat is capable of, and this year it also proved indomitable by the rainy season.

The flagship Wanderer will be back in action by the time you read this; check out the whirlwind  maintenance pulled off by Captain William, First Mate Alex, and Matty from the US Office further down the report.

Remember you can always check the FishingNosara Blog for daily catch updates.

The holiday season is already booking up fast so don't miss out on your chance to fish the best boats in all of Costa Rica. Call me anytime so we can get you booked.

Tight Lines y Pura Vida!

Catch of the Month - November 9, 2014

Captain David has gotten off to a fast start this season on the battleship Discoverer.

On November 9 he welcomed some clients from the nearby Tierra Magnifica for a trip to the Dorado-chocked waters 5 miles from shore.

This is just a sampling of the excellent Dorado catches for these clients, who ended up with 12 magnificent Mahi-Mahi on ice.

FishingNosara Family Update

Huge news from the US Office! It has begun....

After the empowering experience of The Discoverer Project, the FishingNosara Build Team has set on yet another course to redefine Costa Rica sportfishing.

The genesis of The Harvester Project was in the success of our 26-foot Super Panga Explorer.

The combination of a big-bow panga hull with a single Yamaha motor has proven unbeatable for fishing in our stretch of ocean.

As her legend grew, we began to wonder what the Explorer would be like if it was just as big as the Wanderer and Discoverer.

We searched far and wide for the best panga hull manufacturer in the Western Hemisphere and, after a few mis-steps and dead ends we found the clear choice: Eduardono Boats based in Columbia.

Eduardono has been making hulls for over 60 years and they are constantly improving upon their legendary designs; in fact most panga boats in Central America are either Eduardonos, or copies built by lesser manufacturers.

The 32-foot Corvina hull is exactly what we are looking for: strong, light, and proven to last in rough conditions. The stringers are foam-filled for extra floatation, and the hull we got is brick-solid.

Like all panga hulls she is big-nosed, narrow in the waist, and flat on the bottom; these factors make it so that a single motor can get this boat up on plane and therefore saves a ton of fuel.

We placed our order with Eduardo a few months ago, and Craig got to work sketching out his dreams for the ultimate 'Mega Panga".

As the days crawled by we were left to salivate over this single picture sent from the Eduardono production facility in Columbia:

Finally on November 3, 2014 she arrived to her new home in our Jacksonville, FL shops. Getting it out of the container was a little dicey:

How do we know that this boat is solid? Well, it endured a 5 foot drop straight to the concrete when one of the chains broke:

No one was (seriously) hurt and we got our money back for the chain...all's well that ends well!

Once settled we got her out of the box and hanging on chain hoists, we had to construct a cradle so the boat would sit level on the ground.

We won't be getting a trailer for this boat until later in the project, so it is critical that our saddle be at perfect level so that when we start laying out the floor and consoles things don't get off-square.

It took most of a day, but the Harvester is settled, level, and ready for us to sink our teeth into this meaty project.

The Harvester Project is officially underway and we are stoked to bring you regular updates in this monthly fishing report and live-as-it-happens on the Florida Sportsman Boat Build Forum.

Also around our Florida shops, we put the finishing touches on the last batch of new 6 passenger Safari Carts, and loaded them up for the long trip to Nosara.

These bad boys should be in town and ready-to-rent in early December.

Our boat show season has begun with great times had at the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show and the Florida Sportsman Expo.

One of the best parts of this adventure is these unique opportunities to meet new friends and catch up with past clients. Both of these shows were huge successes and we can't wait for our Northeast US circuit of shows to fire off this January.

Back in Nosara, Javier has put the finishing touches on the newly renovated North Loop Guiones Beach Office. Check out the sweet tile work around the pillars:

When you run a place as unique as Nosara Paradise Rentals, it's the little details that count. Check out the fresh shine on these newly built pool chairs...great work by Grevan and the property crew.

Lastly, our conquest of the globe continues...check out this photo we received from past client Mark Collins from his recent trip to Jamaica:

Dems' a nice coozie, bredren! One Love!

Captain Carlos has propelled the 26-foot Explorer to new height since taking over command in May.

His performance on the smaller Adventurer over the last year opened our eyes Captain Carlos' skill on the water, and he is the natural choice to continue the tradition of Extreme Panga Fishing.

Captain Fico (right) still plies his craft as one of the best Mates in Garza Bay, and combined with Captain Carlos' legendary skills, the Explorer can not be stopped!

Last month Kyle Sawicki and his new bride Lindsay won Catch of the Month honors for their Marlin battles on the Explorer. Now we have our hands on the video from their Dorado catch, plus a snippet of a Marlin that escapes capture:

Captain Carlos isn't one to rest on past success, so as the calendar flipped over to November he was back in action.

Troy and Christine Jones took to the Explorer for a fruitful harvest of sea life on November 4, scoring a nice Dorado backed-up by some tasty Snappers.

Recently Captain Carlos has continued to shine!

On November 11 he led a trip to the inshore fish market for his clients and they filled the shopping cart with Dorado, Wahoo, and Queen Snappers:

Amazing all around catches for the Explorer left these clients with a wide variety of filets for the refrigerator.

The Explorer has a full schedule this month with lots of great angler lined up for Extreme Panga Fishing. There is still some availability, but act fast before it is too late!

Great year by Captain David! Between his time on the Explorer and Discoverer he released 250 Sailfish and 38 Marlin last season.

We may have created a monster by equipping a fisherman of David's caliber with a full arsenal of fish fighting gear, big Yamaha motors, and a 20-foot tower.

Trust me that Captain David is excited for this season; the new battleship has a puncher's chance of catching the Wanderer for the title of Best Boat in the Bay.

On October 24 the Discoverer was back in action after an extended off-season of maintenance and repair.

Captain David is stoked to be back on the water, while the fish population is not nearly as enthusiastic to see the battleship prowling the surface.

Client Nick Townsend snared the first fish of the season...check out this sweet Wahoo:

A great start to what we know will be a great season!

The Discoverer kept the good times rollin' with client Mike Arzewski on November 1. The big battleship reports several nice Dorados backed up by a few Jack Crevalles.

The Discoverer is primed for battle and Captain David is itching for action. We have limited openings available so don't delay, book today!

The mighty Wanderer is the FishingNosara flagship and has earned the title of the top boat in the bay.

Part of the burden of running 300+ trips a year is that she takes a beating from big fish, the sun, salt, and panga boats knocking into the hull.

This season we stripped the blue beauty down to the raw fiberglass for a proper new paint job.

Regular report readers will recall that back in 2012 we did the same project with three workers from the US and two weeks time:

Now with all the experienced garnered from The Discoverer Project, we were able to get this done in four days with only Matty from the US office helping the boat crews.

The crews already had most of the prep sanding done when Matty showed up, so he wasted little time in masking her up and spraying the interior and top with fresh white gelcoat.

On day three Matty showed the guys the secret to mixing up FishingNosara blue; basically you put one drop of dispersion pigment into a 5 gallon bucket of white Gelcoat. This kind of discretion creates a finish with just a whisper of blue.

Rain interrupted the process after the first coat of blue went on, but clear weather and strong sun returned on the last day so Matty could finish the last two coats.

Captain William and First Mate Alex spent the next two weeks re-assembling the interior and re-installing the rod holders, rub rail, and fighting chair:

She was re-launched on November 11 and the Wanderer is primed for another amazing season as the King of Garza Bay!

Nosara River Update

Road trip time for the Fuppernos (Friends of the River)!

Javier, Freddy, and the boys loaded up and headed across the country to a little fishing camp on the Rio Colorado.

The highlight of the trip was this beefy Robalo (Snook) snared by Freddy Poloma:

It was great for the guys to try their techniques in a different fishery, plus there was ample opportunities for good bonding amongst the Fuppernos.

They returned home after a great long weekend on the east coast to find that torrential seasonal rains had washed a mountain of trash into the Rio Nosara.

As always Javier and the Fuppernos rallied the troops for a river clean-up to keep this resource in pristine condition.

Since then there has been excellent action at the river mouth. Check out this monster Snook hooked-up by local anglers Tanayo and Alonso Aragon:
