Shabbat Shalom: Weekly Update

The Aftermath

Hurricane Sandy left the Village of Westhampton Beach with unprecedented damage and flooding, particularly those areas south of Main Street and along Dune Road. Fortunately, The Hampton Synagogue buildings sustained no damage.  Our campuses did see the loss of ten trees.

As of Wednesday, full power was restored to our facilities and both our administrative and maintenance staff is preoccupied with cleaning up the debris and preparing for Shabbat.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who were afflicted by this historic storm.

Many are in mourning over the loss of family members and friends.  This horrific tempest should remind us of the common place blessings we frequently overlook.  We take our homes, our environment, and most importantly, our wellbeing for granted, but let one of them be threatened, we then realize how precious they are.

On behalf of the entire congregation, we express our deepest gratitude to both local and state authorities for their tireless and heroic efforts in restoring a sea of tranquility to our waterfront community.

Shabbat Shalom.

May you and your loved ones be blessed with a Sabbath of rest and serenity.
