Affordable Botox treatment comes to Wolf Mountain! Sometimes there are great announcements that deserve a special shout out, and this is one of them. Wolf Mountain Day Spa has just added Botox treatment to our wonderful menu of services.

What makes this news so extra special is the doctor providing the service - Dr. Selene Castrejon-Dunham (she goes by Dr. Selene). She has a private cosmetic practice in Roseville as well as Grass Valley, California, where our spa is.

Board certified in emergency medicine, Dr. Selene received her medical degree from University of California, San Francisco Medical School. She completed an emergency residency at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine. Prior to establishing her private practice, Dr. Selene spent three years at The Permanente Medical Group in Sacramento. She is also affiliated with our top-rated Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital specializing in emergency medicine.

With credentials like that, it's easy to understand why we are excited to be offering Botox at Wolf Mountain. Dr. Selene is here every other Monday afternoon to assist with your desire to erase deep facial lines to look and feel radiant.

Dr. Selene begins her practice at Wolf Mountain beginning Monday, July 21. There's never been a better opportunity to take control of your facial appearance than our Botox treatments. Now that's news worth shouting about!

Due to the fact that aging lowers the body's ability to endure long periods of cold, seniors are greatly at risk of hypothermia. To prevent this potentially dangerous situation, the Senior Firewood Program was established in 1979 by a group of volunteers dedicated to helping low income seniors stay warm and healthy.

The Senior Firewood Program is self-funded through the sale of oak and campfire bundles. Each year the number of clients served varies according to available resources (wood, volunteers, and funds). In a typical year, the program is able to serve 100 - 125 senior households.

The wood provided is a mixture of pine, fir and cedar, and is delivered by volunteers, using their private vehicles. The wood provided is intended to supplement other heating sources.

Seniors may qualify, if they meet the following criteria:

A Nevada County resident living in the Greater Grass Valley area.

65 years of age or older.

Lives alone or with another eligible senior.

 Very low income.

All prospective seniors (new and returning) must apply by August 15, to determine their eligibility and need. Applications received after August 15, will be placed on a waiting list.

Our goal is to serve those seniors most in need, so eligibility is re-assessed each year.

Seniors in need of assistance may call GCCS (273-4961) or Helpline (273-2273) to inquire.

Hello Art Friends~

We have so much to share this month...we are bursting! But first we want to send out a sincere THANKS and huge appreciation to Nevada County. The support we have received has been beyond phenomenal; we are so grateful and are just so thrilled to be on this journey! With that said, we have a lot to celebrate.....

First, we have finally received our 501(c) (3) non-profit status from the IRS! Yippee!! It has been a long process but we feel that this step will enable us to expand our vision of providing art in the lives of so many that would not have been able to enjoy it otherwise.

Next, we have opened a new studio that will allow us to offer more classes with more local artists! Please join us at our Open House, see details below. While we are still a mobile art studio, we envision this to be another creative space in which to collaborate with the community.

As I think back on my first ten years as Executive Director of The Friendship Club in some ways I can't believe where the time has gone.  On the other hand, I feel like I am just getting started!  In ten years we have moved our location to our current site where we can welcome 90 girls a week in two spacious classroom, large kitchen, and library.  We have grown our staff then shrunk again, then grown it back to the place it needs to be to fully realize our program goals.  We have faced both financial challenges and been overwhelmed by our community's support. The staff has birthed seven babies in ten years and we have juggled being short staffed every year save one....2011 was a great year!! We have rethought, revised, retooled, and revamped every component of our program, making sure to take care of the girls as their changing needs presented themselves.  We have seen 56 of our girls graduate high school as active members of The Friendship Club with over 85% of them going on to college.  We have touched the lives of over 500 girls in Nevada County and we know our reach now has gone far beyond our community's borders.  Our oldest girl is 31 years old and girls live in 10 states.
