Community Members Learn About Adverse Childhood Experiences 
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are negative experiences that can happen to children and impact them into adulthood. 

An Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Study found connections between 10 common traumas experienced during childhood and how they can negatively impact our health and social conditions later in life.

On March 25, 2013, 220 people, representing over 100 organizations, attended a community forum where we heard about research surrounding Adverse Childhood Experiences and what we can do as a community.
 

Join us for our next community conversation on Tuesday, April 30, 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. at the Human Service Campus Building as we continue to discuss what ACEs look like in our community and how we can prevent and reduce the negative impacts. Click here to RSVP.

Our Annual Volunteer Awards event will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013,  at The Hotel at Kirkwood (7725 Kirkwood Blvd. SW, Cedar Rapids).

Jack Roeder, former General Manager of the Kernels, will be our keynote speaker.

We will award a volunteer in each of the following categories: outstanding youth, adult volunteer, senior adult volunteer, group volunteer, and business volunteer.

The award winners will be given $500 to donate to a non-profit of their choice.

The Sinclair Society
Did you know? Our Sinclair Society was named in honor of Thomas M'Elderry Sinclair, who started the Sinclair Packing Plant in 1871.

In 1876, he opened a mission at
his plant so that children could
learn to read and write.
