The Cedar Rapids community is holding a food drive on Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 21, 2013. This is a day to honor Dr. King's legacy of freedom and unity. Dr. King believed in the power of people to come together to create change and better communities. Coe College, HACAP, Mt. Mercy University, and United Way of East Central Iowa have come together to provide an opportunity for our community to serve each other on the day.
Food Drive and Food Sculpture Contest:
Hunger knows every season. While many families receive food assistance over the holidays, donations tend to drop off after the holidays. Help us keep area food pantries stocked this winter by donating non-perishable food items for our Food Drive. All donations will go to the HACAP food reservoir to support area food pantries. Donations can be dropped off at these locations:
Mount Mercy University

- January 14th-20th 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Coe College

Linn County Public Health

Volunteers at each location are encouraged to create a sculpture with the food collected and post a picture on the United Way of East Central Iowa's Facebook page.Starting the next day, people can vote for their favorite.
