Greetings! This is a BIG newsletter, lots going on!
There is a silver lining to the sequestration and budget mess and it is in evidence now. More Sources Sought Notices (1,300 in just the last 30 days), more RFPs (over 5,900 on FBO alone, not to mention FedBid, task orders, and other in-progress contracts) and more task orders on ongoing multiple-award contracts are now hitting the streets because the budget is approved and in "spend" mode.
While some contractors are seeing the budget cuts result in layoffs and early-outs, we are also seeing an unprecedented opportunity for companies of all sizes who really can provide services and products that will help accomplish goals faster, better, more cost-effectively. What side of that fence are you on?
Sharpen your proposal skills because you are going to need to know how to stand out from your competition in the new federal market. The Government Contracting Institute Proposal Class with Dr. Robert Frye and Mike Parkinson on April 16 detailing advanced level proposal writing and graphics skills has met registration capacity - and we have a request to move to a larger training room. Registration is open, for more information, click here.
And for an advanced, updated and federally-focused Sales Course for Federal Contractors, sign up to attend the April 23 class for a very targeted approach to successful selling (services and products). We have excellent instructors who have designed a full day devoted to improving sales strategies, techniques and tactics that work in the federal marketplace. As with all of the Institute classes, this is fast-paced with limited seating. Smart contractors will invest time and effort now in updating your sales skills to meet the changing environment. This is appropriate for sales, support and executive-level attendees.

Introducing the TargetGov Federal Market News Release Service
Help Your Business Grow: Use Public Relations to Market to the Federal Government
TargetGov can help you promote your business to the federal government by crafting and distributing news releases to specific targets for you. This is an excellent way to have you and your business gain visibility while we do the legwork. We can either use news releases you've already written and distribute them for you or write fresh news releases and distribute them for you.
News releases in the federal market are very different from those targeting the private sector or typical publications. One must be very specific with the data included and the targeted recipients.
"We have found the news release distribution service effective at increasing visibility, recognition and improving SEO," said one of our clients, "Our business has increased since starting this service."

Western Extralite Receives Service Member Patriot Award
Congratulations to our client Western Extralite for receiving this award and their outstanding commitment to our veterans.
After four years away in service to our country, Staff Sergeant
Gene Baker returned to his civilian career at Western Extralite. Gene worked for our company three years before he was called to active duty in the Reserves. Upon his return, Gene nominated Western Extralite for a Service Member Patriot Award. This award is given when a reservist receives extraordinary support upon their return to work. Western Extralite held Gene's job for four years. This type of effort from Western Extralite exemplifies our commitment to provide service to our government customers and honor our servicemen and women.
This award specifically recognizes supervisors nominated by a Guardsman or Reservist and Western Extralite is happy to create a work culture that helps our military families thrive. The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support Citizen Warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.

Etiquette Returns for the Digital Age
By: Alex Williams
Are manners dead? Cellphones, Twitter and Facebook may be killing off the old civilities and good graces, but a new generation of etiquette gurus, good-manner bloggers and self-appointed YouTube arbiters is rising to make old-fashioned protocols relevant to a new generation.
Their apparent goal: to help members of Generation Y navigate thorny, tech-age minefields like Paperless Post invites, same-sex weddings and online dating - not to mention actual face-to-face contact with people they encounter in the offline world.
For instance, you may not think you need a tutorial on shaking hands when being introduced to someone for the first time, but Gloria Starr, an image consultant based in Newport Beach, Calif., begs to differ.
"When you shake hands, it's two or three times up and down - from the elbow and not the wrist," Ms. Starr says in one of her 437 YouTube videos, helpfully bobbing her right hand up and down in demonstration. Then "smile and introduce yourself."
