Going Green!

In the spirit of Spring and St. Patrick's Day, we're inspired to continue our "greening" efforts at the inn!

You may already know that we are diligent about our practices to limit our impact on the environment: enrolling in Dominion Power's alternative energy program; recycling EVERYTHING including corks; energy-efficient machines; eco-friendly housekeeping materials; soap recycling with Clean the World and more.

We are always looking for adding ways to reduce our footprint while still delivering the best to our guests.  See below for some of our newest initiatives, large and small!

And, as always, we look forward to hosting you!

New Sheets!
Sheets are not often a hot topic of conversation over dinner - but OH! these new sheets we're using!  They are 600 Thread Count 100% Pima Cotton wrinkle free sheets with a sateen weave.  Translation: they feel like satiny heaven!

So what did we do with the older sets?  The sheets in very good condition we cleaned, ironed and wrapped up into sets and donated to the local women's shelter.  The ones that were in good condition we donated to the local pet shelter.

Soap, Shampoo + Hand Lotion
After using Emz Blendz for 9 years - and loving every ounce of their soap, shampoo and hand lotion - we finally decided to stop shipping product from Seattle (carbon footprint and all).  And "voila"! Lux Aromatica sets up shop in Orange and our soap shipping issues are solved!

Together with owner Kerensa, we developed a new line of soap, shampoo and hand lotion for the inn.  All are made of organic natural ingredients with simple and wonderfully smelling scents.  And shipping is now reduced to me loading the car up and driving 1/4 mile back home.

Water-world
We are now ready to embark on a multi-phase project to redirect the water flow on our property.  Not to bore with details, but the flow is a complicated issue, not the least of which has to do with being situated on the line of two important watersheds.

In other words: we have A LOT of digging to do :)

We'll update you as the projects progress - Stay Tuned!

What's Springing Up?
A few of our favorite shops that hibernate over the winter are opening back up in March and the spring festivals are approaching:

* Montpelier is starting back up their guided Woods Walks in April.
* Historic Garden Week happens Sat April 23 in this area.
* The Liberty Mills Strawberry festival, the Montpelier Wine Festival and Gordonsville Fried Chicken Festival are coming in May!
