The Truth About Casting Calls for Hit TV Show
Where are the top casting directors really seeking talent for hit television shows?
You just got word that a major network like Nickelodeon is casting in your hometown, and even though you don't live in Los Angeles where the show is actually filmed, you're excited to finally have the chance to audition for your favorite television program. Does it sound too good to be true? Possibly! Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it quite possibly is. As with everything in show biz, you really need to do your homework to avoid being ripped off or scammed, and to prepare yourself so you know when these opportunities are indeed legitimate.
"It might be more true that people are pitching a class, panel or workshop using a casting director's name who may or may not actually be attending that event," explained casting director, Krisha Bullock who works on shows like iCarly and True Jackson, VP. "I have found my name used many times promoting events of which I have no knowledge. Or it might be that the attending casting director is indeed from a hit TV show - but that show isn't even currently in production."
Children In Film is passionate about teaching its members about the Casting Process - the way in which a young person goes from a performer with a dream to a working, paid actor. And through the casting process we explain the way casting directors work.
In an attempt to dig further into the process for these big-name shows, we went to the source. We sat down with Casting Director Krisha Bullock, to ask her about the process she and other high-powered casting directors go through when it comes to casting some of the most desired roles in young Hollywood. The good news: sometimes there are legitimate, nationwide searches as well as casting calls in your area, but the talent and his/her parents must truly understand the details and what is expected in order to be ready for such opportunities.
