Washington DC native and principal flutist of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Julia Bogorad-Kogan, returns to the DC area to perform with internationally acclaimed pianist Lydia Artymiw, in a concert in memory of DC educator Hope Bogorad.

Featured on the concert will be "Merry Christmas 1941 for solo piano" which was written as a gift for Hope Bogorad by famed Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu. Other works include virtuosic compositions from the Baroque to Modern era by composers including Telemann, Schubert, Schiff, Bartok, and Taffanel.

Bogorad-Kogan, who became the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra's principal flutist at the age of 22, combines an orchestral career with regular recital and solo performances. She has performed world-wide, including at New York's Merkin Concert Hall, the Schubertsaal of the Vienna Konzerthaus, Washington, D.C.'s Phillips Collection, in San Jose, Costa Rica, and most recently in Xiamen, China. A frequent soloist with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, she also performed the Mozart Concerto in G with the Grand Teton Teton Music Festival Orchestra, conducted by their music director Donald Runnicles. She has appeared on numerous Saint Paul Sunday radio shows, and at the Marlboro and Ravinia festivals. Bogorad-Kogan has served as acting principal flutist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Milwaukee Symphony, the National Symphony, and the Minnesota Orchestra. She serves on the faculty of the University of Minnesota, and was an interim faculty member at the Oberlin Conservatory and at the University of Michigan. Her two latest CDs, on the Full Harmonic label, are Flute Music of the Paris Conservatory, and Handel Flute Sonatas, of which Flute Talk magazine wrote, "Were you to have only one Baroque CD, it should be this one."

The recipient of both an Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Prize, Philadelphia-born Lydia Artymiw has emerged as one of the most compelling talents among pianists of her generation. She has performed with over one hundred orchestras world-wide, with many of the leading conductors of our time. American orchestral appearances include the Boston Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, National Symphony, and with such orchestras as Cincinnati, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Minnesota, St. Louis, San Francisco, Seattle, and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. Solo recital tours have taken her to all major American cities, and she has also performed in Ireland, England, France, Scotland, Finland, Germany, Estonia, Italy, Ukraine, Poland, Switzerland, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, New Zealand, Manila, Philippines and Shanghai and Beijing, China.
